As I have never been in a position, financially, to buy one of these gorgeous cars, I have not taken much interest in production or value of them.
The 991 GT3 has really got my attention and boy, do I want one!!
I've read on various forums that the allocation is all sold out, and the last few cars have been delayed due to the engine issues? So, is this the way GT3's have always been built, one run of say, 1000 cars, then that's it, until the next 99X comes along?
The only thing I can really add is that the engine problem has been fixed and they are moving them again. The Gt3s in the states were shipped back to Rhode Island, a Porsche team came out, set up shop and replaced all engines.
GT3s are limited edition, performance cars. In any given production run they have built as few as 600 to as many as 2,000.
If I ever win the lottery I will get one but for now I will just drool over the one or two that I occasionally see at the dealership. Oh well.
Thanks for the replies there guys.. if only I could have one of these beauties on my drive!! Any body know how much I can get for a good kidney these days??
I was never aware that they were limited run machines. I just thought they were always available, but not many got ordered.
Values of 996s are going up so getting one sooner than latter might be a good idea. Here are the wiki production numbers. I assume they are world-wide numbers.

I'm currently in the market for a GT3, and I can assure you it's crazy! I'm looking at 997.1 and 997.2 although the second gen cars are asking (in many cases) more than they paid MSRP! Early gen cars have miles on them which is not bad but still prices are $90k-$100k for well spec'd cars. Newer cars have lower miles but are $130-$170k which is above Turbo territory! Honestly, at the moment I'm inclined to wait for the Cayman GTx. I've driven 997.1, 997.2 GT3 and GT3RS, and they are special cars no doubt (for me nicer than 997.2 GT2) but not worth the current premium people are paying for the Mezger motor (btw, it's a motor, not magic...)
