Hey everyone,
After reading through a bunch of 987 and
981
threads for bluetooth music streaming and phone calls, there seems to be only makeshift solutions. There should probably be a sticky on this specifically. As far as I understand having the Bluetooth interface (code 619),
PCM
or not and with or without
Bose
, only allows for Bluetooth phone calls. The interface lacks both AVRCP and A2DP, which respectively provide remote steering wheel mounted or deck control of phone audio functions and streaming capability.
Since I want minimal wiring, ideally just to charge the phone via micro USB, and best sound quality meaning no FM transmitters, what are some suggestions?
1. I plan to to magnetic vent mount the phone on the passenger side center vent so I don't have some large bulky cradle.
2. Can I power the phone reliably via the USB interface using a micro USB cord? I cannot find the Amp for the port, but I have to assume it may only have enough to juice a USB music stick. So if that's the case, then is there a accessory/cigarette
plug
USB adapter which has an on/off switch or auto off switch? I don't understand why the accessory
plug
has to stay hot even when the car is off (crazy engineers). It makes sense for the port in the passenger well to maintain the
battery
when not driving.
3. Is there is a device that can go in the aux jack which can Bluetooth receive and transmit so I can easily switch back to music when done with a phone call? I don't think my phone will allow connection to 2 simultaneous bluetooth devices. I hope I don't have to run an aux 3.5 too
Thanks
What phone are you using? You might have found
my thread
already, but it details a potential solution to the issues you describe. But it would depend on your phone maintaining two BT connections simultaneously.
Also, if your phone has wireless charging, there are some cool solutions out there.
I currently have a Samsung Galaxy S3. Yes it may be ancient in the smartphone world, but does all the basic stuff for me. I think 2 different Bluetooth profiles (HFP to Porsche vs A2DP/AVRCP to aux in transmitter) can be activated at once.
Your NFC solution seems good for audio streaming. There are a lot of other transmitter options that I've been looking at too.
Amazon.com: Bluetooth Transmitter, TaoTronics Wireless Portable Transmitter (Connected to 3.5mm Audio Devices, Paired with Bluetooth Receiver. TV Ears, Bluetooth Dongle, A2DP Stereo Music Transmission): MP3 Players & Accessories
Amazon.com: Bluetooth Receiver / Car Kit, TaoTronics Portable Wireless Audio Adapter 3.5 mm Stereo Output (Bluetooth 4.0, A2DP, Built-in Microphone) for Home Audio Music Streaming Sound System: Cell Phones & Accessories
For the auto-off when there is no device connected or charging, I cannot find anything. I don't plan on rewiring the port. I may just have to use the following usb charger with a switch in my armrest port. Or does the port (not the footwell one) turn off when the car is off?

The port doesn't turn off when the car is off. Hence my fuse box modifications.
Your modification affects just the power port in the passenger well, correct? Or does it affect the armrest port too?
I would be interested in modifying the accessory port in the armrest while maintaining an always hot passenger well port for a
battery
maintainer.

Hey everyone,
I was wondering about people's experience for the following:
BT connect a cellphone to the
Porsche
PCM
for call audio, meaning the HFP profile, while having it connect to a bluetooth transmitter via aux port for media audio, meaning the A2DP profile, at the SAME time.
I am aware the
PCM
does not support media audio since I do not see that option in the
PCM
listing on my
Samsung
Galaxy, unlike my 3 series which has both call and media audio.
Has anyone tried using a cellphone on a 987 with built in bluetooth for phone calls? Meanwhile, a transmitter is used via the aux input for streaming music?
That's exactly how I'm setup on my
987.2
w/
CDR-30
. Use the
Porsche
BT for phone calls and a BT receiver connected to the Aux-in for music.
Using a Nexus 5.
Great!
So then the necessary parts and steps should be:
1. Bluetooth receiver paired with phone.
2. On phone, go to Bluetooth settings and find receiver. Only pair media audio, NOT call audio.
3. Charge via the USB port in the center armrest
4. Connect receiver to aux-in, and set
PCM
3 or older to aux port.
Now how to charge the phone? I wonder if I can split the connection to the USB port in the arm rest and give the phone and BT receiver both enough power.
Can just buy this which has a switch?

Or does the center port (not the well port) power off after a short time if no device is charging?
Yeah,
I linked my setup earlier
, you might have missed it. You have a bunch of options for the BT receiver. You can power from the socket in the armrest or in the footwell. There are plenty of 12V plugs out there which can power two devices simultaneously (mine does).
