I just purchased a used 987.1 w/ PCM & Bose that came with a Dension in the glovebox. There wasn't much information with it, there was a pamphlet that had hardware installation instructions for "500S / 500S BT" so I'm assuming it's one of those. I did find a microphone up around the headliner, so I'm also assuming (maybe incorrectly?) it's a BT unit. The issue I'm having is that I have no idea how to get this working. I found general user guides for the
500S BT
I've been fidgeting around and here's what I've seen/figured out: CD 1 Shows GW Aux, CD 2-5 just shows 2-5, CD 6 Shows Menu
Going to Menu and holding down the next/seek button seems to go into it at which I'm presented with only two options: Volume & About.
Going into About shows I'm on SW1:G51A0046, which I assume means I'm on firmware 0046.
On the controller, there's a blue light that stays on. It turned off when I reset it and tried to flip it into bypass mode - flipping it into the bypass mode made my CD make noises as if it was trying to eject a CD.
Enabling BT on my phone, it searches but doesn't see any available networks. I've tried plugging it directly to my iPhone 6 and I get a message of device not supported on phone, no change on PCM. I'm more interested in getting my BT setup than anything else, but I'm out of ideas of what else to do to get it to pair. Does anyone have advice?

Update: I was able to get a hold of Dension support. Everything was attributed to outdated firmware. I was sent a new file for v. 0058, after the flash I was able to get a host of menus that was not available on 0046. The new firmware made it crystal clear what was needed.
In case anyone else buys a used Cayman with an outdated Dension...
This is what I followed:
1. Go to the
Dension website
2. Find and select the 500S BT product
3. Scroll to the bottom, the newest firmware is at the bottom of the product page
4. Download the firmware to a USB key (must use FAT 16 or FAT 32 format)
5. Go to your car, turn it ignition on - doesn't matter if engine running or not.
6. Turn the radio on and select CD
7. Plug in the USB stick - wait literally 3 minutes. Do not be impatient.
8. Your screen may or may not change, you may or may not notice the blue light blink. For me, it was obvious the firmware took when I heard the CD player cycle through with a low hum.
9. Select CD 6, and find the Menu track
10. Cycle through with the next seek button until you find Settings
11. Hold down the next seek button to go into settings (hold down back seek button to go back, the PCM back button doesn't work)
12. Cycle through with the next seek button into About and hold down to enter it
13. Confirm your changes took.
14. Within the settings, setup all of your settings - BT Audio needs to be manually enabled.
15. The entire system needs to be restarted before your settings take. (Turn off the car, open and close the door, lock it and wait for the blue led to turn off.)
16. Go into your phone and enable BT, you'll find the 500S network and you can pair it using 0000. It will sync and you should be good to go.
