Over the last few weeks if I've let my (987.2)
Cayman S
sit for a few days my radio presets will be gone (and I'm greeted with a full volume static) when I start the car. It sort of feels like a
battery
somewhere is exhausted (other electrical components like garage door opener seem fine and the car doesn't have any trouble turning over).
I've had general issues with the stereo in that the lowest audible volume is very loud.
I'm wondering if anyone else has run into similar and has any advice other than taking it to the dealer.
some of the posters on p9 have mentioned strange electrical gremlins when the
battery
is on the verge of giving up.... perhaps using a cell tester for the
battery
first?
I had some similar symptoms when my cdr30 went faulty. It had the Bluetooth telephone module and when I started the car after a 30 minute break on a road trip all presets had gone, the Bluetooth module wasn't working and I was greeted with high volume static.
It was working fine just before and hadn't shown any previous signs of problems.
I had a friends garage take a look but they couldn't see anything obvious so I decided to spend a few hundred quid on a new head unit and the euromotorspeed fitting kit instead of paying a porsche dealer a lot of money to fix a pretty crappy unit!
Good luck with yours tho.

The replacement head unit fixed the issues? My bluetooth has actually never worked since I purchased the car, so your description sounds as close to mine as I could hope for over the Internet. Did you replace it with a stock unit or an aftermarket one? I googled the 'euromotorspeed fitting kit' and assume based on that you went aftermarket but just wanted to make sure.
Do u use a
CTEK
battery
maintainer?
I'm suspicious of
battery
sulfation and that's one of the first things I would try. I use mine if it is going to sit more than 3-4 days.
So although I might let my car sit a week or two before starting it, I haven't actually experienced any problems starting the car. Do you think the radio would struggle more than starter motor? I'm just curious if you thought my car was idle for a long period of time or if there was another element of your post I was missing?
Yes. Sulfation can make a
battery
do strange things, and your type of use typically leads to sulfation. Have you ever heard a car alarm in a parking lot go off for no reason? That typically is from sulfation. U I need to read up on sulfation. The
CTEK
can often fix sulfation problems if they have not progressed too far.
