Suggestion

I stripped off the plastidip and tried again with fewer coats, using an x-acto knife to remove any plastidip on the sides.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I followed the article on here for painting my peeling A/C console unit switches. I finished it and put it all back together and now I'm having issues with the screen. Now the usual images are more faint and there's those bright dots of light across the screen. I was careful with everything throughout the process. Could someone more electronically savvy help me figure out what's wrong? I'd really appreciate any help. Thanks!

POST 2Original post

Well, I figured out what the issue was today... Apparently I was missing the thin, white rectangle piece that sits right behind the screen. Apparently, it fell out the first time I opened it and I hadn't noticed it. Oh well, happy it's fixed and maybe this can help some other clumsy DIY'er.

POST 3Original post

glad you managed to track down the issue and resolve it! did you use paint or plastidip?

POST 4Original post

I used plastidip. That was actually my 1st try which didn't go well. I now know you have to be careful not to let too much build up on the sides of the switch or the switch won't move well. Here's my final product picture that I took 5 minutes ago. I stripped off the plastidip and tried again with fewer coats, using an x-acto knife to remove any plastidip on the sides. Glad that I'm finely done with what should have been a really simple fix. Feel free to message me if you have any questions. I'd be happy to pass on what I've learned.
