I am stating Pushing more fluid has nothing to do with the "sponginess of the brake pedal" and you will not hit a firm point like you will on a GT3 set up because you have fitted a MC !

I took mine out on the Clophill super car run yesterday and was the first real chance I've had to give her a workout, I have to say I was very impressed how well it coped given the company it was keeping.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm still not sure what the GT3MC is meant to be masking.
So i've a few jobs on the list for mine:
- Fit front wheel spacers and have full geo done
- Annoying rattle coming from rear, not sure what but need to find it (i suspect air box) - probably have Paragon fix it under warranty
- Might do something with the brakes, definitely not a fan of the feel of them and I know this is a common complaint with the R, they certainly don't feel as positive as my Cayman S felt which bothers me - maybe new pads, any recommendations for improving feel?
Gratious picture of my dirty one.
Got the spyder summer wheels ready in the shed!
Mine is manual, sport chrono, buckets, spyder wheels, xenons and parking sensors and thats about it. No Aircon no PSE. 6000 miles atm.
Gonna take it to Racing Erich in Germany somewhere around may/june. He promised me a dyno-proven 375 horsepower, they got a Racing rigged Cayman R with almost 390!
Map, headers, exhaust, plenum intake throttle body , gonna delete the cats I think and have the original exhaust in the garage just in case.
Should shovel quite well!

Desperate to get some of those, where did you manage to get them from?
Very helpful chap in the USA. Think he makes batches every now and again as a wee side project. Will PM you his email.
Anyone solved the storage rattle problem between the seats? I used sticky dots but they don't have enough damping so don't stop it entirely if you're on a less than perfect surface.

Looks like mine and also doing very similar things.
Fitting 5mm Spacers (will I need longer wheels bolts with 5mm ones?)
Fitting RS29's (will have to remove come service time)
Having iPod jack fitted by OPC
Looking for larger exhaust tips
Looking for a speaker upgrade
Must post some pics of mine up.

Go and wash your mouth out!
Car looks great in white Beanoir.
Who is the guy in Germany mentioned and where did you hear of him? Is there another forum better for tuning/tweaking of these cars?

Ehresmann automotive, think he is ahead of most other tuners when it comes to 987s and 981s to be honest. He has already transplanted a 991 GTS engine into a 981 boxster, goes like stink!
Read about him on the pff.de forums and planet 9.

I try to keep mine looking ok :-) when you see Peridot, you just have to think, that's the only colour for it :-)
It may look like snot green in winter, but when the sun comes out the gold really comes though on it and is stunning imo.

May have had a little edit!
More to the background and desaturation of the background, the car does pop when clean in the sun after a wash I still look out the window at it after 2 years.

What's the opinion on a manual car without sports chrono? Does it make much difference on a manual?
Fine, mine has this spec. The main "loss" is the lack of sport level traction control but you can get it on Porsche t Equipment if you really want it for about a grand.

Mine is having its brakes done at the end of the month. It's having the GT3 MC added. It already has braided hose, gt3 brake ducts, Castrol SRF fluid and EBC yellow pads. I'm also going to get a remap to get rid of the daft flat spot. I'm going to leave it at that for the time-being and then think about doing some other stuff.

I've always found that bright sunlight brings out more of the green rather than gold whenever I've shot a Peridot CR.
It is a colour that seems to have innumerable personalities though - looks so different in different environments and lighting conditions.

ill get back to you when I get the quote.
Appearently the 981 is easier to tune and also has dual intakes vs one for the R. Im gonna go catless though, just after getting it approved for another 2 years. But the cayman R really comes alive with these mods, night and day.

Please do keep us updated!
A Cayman R with 370 hp from a 3.4L seems like an incredible value proposition compared to the GT4 which is already decent in that department. As I don't spend much time on track wouldn't get much out of the increased mechanical grip and additional aero anyway.
Why did you renew Porsche Approved? Do you think they would do warranty work on your engine when they see a catless racing exhaust underneath? I highly doubt it...
No MOT if no cats just too much hassle and noise.
As for 981 easier to tune, the ecu is locked and no one has cracked it yet, so not easy to tune at all, he just puts a 911 map on it !
EBC yellow, well ditch them for a start :-)
:-) just sayin .

981 can be tuned, just not via the OBD. keep up at the back
he doesnt put a 911 map on it, the car wont work like that. he has a 991 GTS engine in a Boxster 981 now!
im not yet 100% decided on no cats, but its alot cheaper, 7-8 bhp extra and MOT is only every other year, can renew right before then slap it on. so its mighty tempting

Has the 981 ecu been cracked or not ? Or is the guy using a stock 991 map ?
MOT every year in the UK so swapping manafolds is a non starter for most. And then there is the legal issue.

Looked at the 1st 2 pages and last 2 pages did not see a solution bar a stock 991 map.
you cant flash a 981 with 991 software, it wont work.
From what I have gathered, they are flashing 981 S cars with modified GTS software ( up from 315 to 360ish from only a map) other mods on top of that bring it up to 370 and beyond.
They still wont get full throttle with the GTS map, probably running a little rich compared to the 991 as not to upset the mighty carrera
but with mods to manifolds and exhaust you can still get to 370+ in the 981 S... not to shabby
Have you contacted Racing Erich regarding the 987? I just noticed that he only deals with 991/981 cars according to his site.
Imagine a Boxster Spyder with 375 PS, 1275kg and an engine that sounds like this... keep your 981 GT4 and Spyder, thank you very much:

18k on mine and the previous owners had inflicted the beginnings of noticeable wear. Given the replacement OEM bit of leather is a ludicrous £500 per side, I figured these things were a good bet. In terms of aesthetics, it's not like the driver or anyone else spends an awful lot of time looking at the bolster so no real drama there.

No I don't mind, but if you are flaming others for track performance you better be quick yourself ; - )
The 997 GT3 throttle body and 82 mm , well its 415 bhp not 500. And the R can be tuned well beyond 350.
you might not crave more hp, if 330 is ok for you. Id like to free up everything I can with low-hanging fruit i.e. manifolds, exhaust, plenum and throttle body.
If I can get 45 brake hp extra for 4000-5000 quid, thats ok in my book. maybe not in yours. Im getting around to the underpinnings as well, difference is I want 375 not 330 if I can get that for 100 quid per horsepower. thats fair in my book. Ehresmanns race Cayman R churns out 385. Im sure they could make do with 330 but didn't ; - ) Horses for cources.

that's all fine, I was stating on track with oem geo and Potenza tyres, they are pretty pants on track, unless one drives at roads speeds but if driven with some skill would last about 3 or 4 laps before you melted the tyres and bent all the tread back on the outers, ruining the tyres.
so as you stated "Ehresmanns race Cayman R churns out 385" but I bet he does not have stock sus parts and geo :-)
If people aim for a more realistic 360BHp with a road legal car then again that is a point I am making, we see claims of big Bhp all the time but many have been too Surrey RR and boasting here and come back and posted 5 bhp gains after a trip there.
ALso deleting cats in the UK is a non starter imo. you might not be insured, the cars not road legal and we have MOT every year. If people than make more than 360BHP they are over the moon, but if they make 1bhp less than a 375BHp claim they moan for days and days and want to name and shame.

no real :-)
you can get the Cargraphic headers/manafolds for £1900+ vat in the UK, the ones with the 200 cell cats.
that would be my choice and infact what I have ordered. track only car then race system would be ok , but again here in the UK that would NOT pass any noise limits either on UK track days and not road legal so a bit of a loose loose fitment.
so "requires less length of travel"
like I said :-) , has nothing to do with end point firmness and "sponginess of the brake pedal"
this is where I want cmoose to explain the magic.
bit like asking a painter to paint your lounge grey only to come back and he painted your kitchen pink !

Courtesy of your friend, Fiorano:
Force applied by your foot on the brake pedal creates a pressure in the master cylinder. For any given brake pedal force
a larger master cylinder
will create less pressure than a smaller master cylinder.
Pressure = Force / Area so increasing area reduces pressure if force is fixed.
Pressure created by the master cylinder then acts upon the brake pistons which (pressure acting on an area) apply force to the brakes. This force is directly related to pressure since piston area is fixed. Applying X pressure will generate Y Force.
Since a larger master cylinder generates less pressure for a given pedal force, in order to generate Y force using X pressure, greater force must be applied at the pedal.
In addition to generating pressure, the master cylinder must also move a volume of fluid. Volume = area x length. To achieve a given volume, a master cylinder with a larger area
requires less length of travel
than a smaller master cylinder.
As a result,
a larger master cylinder requires greater pedal pressure
and less travel to achieve a required brake force in comparison with a smaller master cylinder.
I bolded the key points as I know you can be a bit heard of reading...
ETA - to assist GT4

so "requires less length of travel"
like I said :-) , has nothing to do with end point firmness and "sponginess of the brake pedal"
this is where I want cmoose to explain the magic.
bit like asking a painter to paint your lounge grey only to come back and he painted your kitchen pink !
See above - I'm sorry, there was another bit I should have bolded
still has nothing to do with "end point firmness" and "sponginess of the brake pedal" how every many things you make bold :-)
I have said it many a time and I think the issue is brake booster, but no one has messed about with that part.
MC masks an issue which people are then a bit happier with after fitment, but not a fix to "end point firmness" and "sponginess of the brake pedal"
If you want less pedal travel then MC is worth doing , but really an over haul with 996 GT3 6 pot calipers, 350mm disks, brake booster, MC and RS29 pads would be a fuller solution.
If you want more bite and don't want that cost, then larger Gyro 340MM disks along with pads with more bite would help, that moves the caliper out a bit and with a aggressive pad makes the feel a bit better along with the MC fitment for less travel, that's about the best it will be.
Just trying to manage expectations as the MC is not a 1 part fix all solution esp on oem 330mm disks and EBC pads.
Reply from Ehrenmann now regarding tuning the Cayman R:
We custom tune the ecu direcly without any piggyback. Therfore it's a real custom tune.
happy with that reply mrdemon? ; - )
if you are curious, send him a mail.

My question on tune was for the 981 ECU Cars, I know the 987.2 ECU is cracked.
you quoted the 981 is easier to tune and I said is the 981 ECU been cracked then yet !

Duncan came across your post on the bolsters could you send me details and cost to me please best use

He told me there are more gains to be had with the 981, its easier to tune for some reason. Send him a mail!!!

Moose, unless you have something constructive as a Cayman R owner to add, please sod off and stop spamming this thread with your arguments.
Thanks.

lol you have taken up slippy's ex forum bulls
t postings now me and Slippy have made friends ...
now go and do the SVP thing, hold on, I bet you won't do that either !
Go and talk kerb weights or PDK VS manual crap ! as you offer nothing here to any owners.
The 987.2 platform is well over 5 years old, NOTHING new is to market , every thing has been tried and tested 20x over
every one is after the same thing here, why re-invent the wheel because 1 person seems to want to, it's crazy and you don't even own or like them that much, let alone have driven a GT3 MC car a steel shod or a PCCB car all of which I have back to back 2 of which I own FFS.
PS, I see you cannot any come back to me why a MC is the magic fix !!! the issue on your 987.1 car is not the issue people hate about the 987.2 feel, ie no hard stop point and pedal feels spongy.
you just want less pedal travel in your 987.1 car if that's what you want go a bloody fit one, I bet you have not though !!!

Your 'extensive' knowledge of Cayman R ownership is noted and your desire to surf the forum looking for an argument is well known - it's becoming a chore now, I can't believe you're proud of that achievement.
The clue is in the thread title...
The initial half inch of travel is debatable in the spyder, but there after the modulation for road use is perfectly adequate, even from repeated high speed stops. If anything they feel better after a few high speed stops.
The manifold mod sounds interesting. On my old JCW an RMW manifold with 200 cell cat made it feel like a super lightweight flywheel was fitted.

Any Advise?
My advice is sound ;-) if you want reduced pedal travel then that will reduce it, If you want a hard end point like a GT3 and less sponginess then a MC will help mask it but not fix it.
I don't get what is confusing here !
on a side note just had a loan car for a day a 981, I would have though Cmoose would love that over servo pedal feel, it has about 1in movement, just what he is looking for :-)
but in all seriousness , the R after the 981 Cayman just feels so alive/direct, the 981 was a lacklustre under steering mess vs what the R is like to drive.
I am unsure why some people give the R bad press and say it feels lacking ! goodness knows what the same people would say about a standard 981.

.
correct ;-)
People jump on the MC band wagon and think it's the magic fix and it fixes nothing bar making the car harder to heal and toe because now the pedal is too high to roll onto the throttle.

I've absolutely no idea what you are talking about - What issue is the GT3 MC masking? And surely if people are happier post mod, then it works no? I want to improve brake pedal feel. I thought that this was abundantly clear. The GT3 MC is meant to do precisely that because it reduces overall pedal travel, provides a more stable platform for H&T and needs increased pedal force. I've already said that the braking performance is fine - yes it could be better with some of the mods you describe but I don't find that that actual retardation is an issue. Except on here on occasion
When I said sponginess of brake pedal, what I meant is that the damn thing moves too much - it feels overservoed. I want a very firm brake pedal, not much movement, more force, same level of retardation and consistency of response - that's it.

When I had my CR I enquired about adding the GT3 MC and I was told by an OPC that they would not do it, unless I wanted to forfeit the warranty - I had two remaining so decided against it.
Yes OPCs won't like it. Mines out of warranty now, so no issue. Anyway, you can always change it back if the car is under warranty and going in for some work.

over servo means it moves less as the servo does the work !(try a 981 as an example of over servo, cmoose hates it lol) the oem does NOT feel overservoed ! that's why people like Porsche brakes because they are NOT over servoed !! and there for you can easily threshold brake because of the feel you get.
You need to be sure what you are asking here and what you want from it.
if you ment you wanted less travel why keep saying "sponginess of brake pedal" the 2 are not related.
Now you state "the damn thing moves too much" in which case the larger MC will reduce travel if that is your goal. (but that's the 1st time you have said this ! )
IF you have driven a 996 or 997 GT3 you would see what people moving from these cars are trying to get , "a hard end point", not the "sponginess" the 987.2 car has.
the MC masked that "sponginess" in giving the end user less travel and a harder pedal to press, why any one wants a harder to press brake pedal is odd though, or less travel !
I find having the travel really helps one with brake modulation, and also helps left foot braking if one wants to adjust the car in that way.

I have ordered a set of RS29's first to see how that feels..
Warranty wise, one of my best friends is Service Manager at my local OPC
But the car has only done 11,000 miles so I hope shouldn't need any warranty work yet.

This - I would also want a rock hard pedal, as it would make my foot pressure the thing that stopped the car and make H&T easier regardless of the amount of braking force I wanted to apply. I'm still not sure what the GT3MC is meant to be masking. In my car there's about an inch of travel before the car really reacts to the fact that you pressed the brake pedal. This is the sponginess I was referring to. What do you mean by sponginess?

Good point! I'm going to stop!
. Anyway, the Car goes in this weekend for the GT3MC. I'm on holiday for a week and then picking it up after that. Looking forward to feeling the difference.

interesting, crazy but interesting that you wish for this ! the good news is that anyone half sensible reading this thread will now have good cause to be highly skeptical about any advice you post if that is your end goal.
I don't really think you understand the reason the USA guys were trying this mod and the issue they were trying to cure is not on the gen 1 cars.
As you have had very little time in a gen 2 car, I would say, you have no idea what you are talking about regarding what these guys were trying to fix, :-) a quick jurno drive is not living and understanding these cars day in day out.
I would really hate to think anybody was making changes to their car based on your posts.
"The GT3 MC may not fix any problems you may or may not have with your car. It does for other people"
but it's does NOT fix the real issue people were trying this mod to fix ! has nothing to do with my cars, has every thing to do with the 987.2 brake system.
again I would really hate to think anybody was making changes to their car based on your posts. :-p
As for JP if he wants less travel he will be over the moon with his MC fitment.

Spacer Question..
I am fitting 5mm spacers over the next few months on the front. With 5mm spacers will I need longer bolts?
Good question. My car is getting a new alignment today. Tonight I'm going to fit the 5mm spacers off my 964, so am keen to know what the limit is. On the 964 5mm is the max before going to spacers with studs.

seems not enough to realise what the underlying issue that people were trying to fix was in the 987.2 brake system :-)
I am not going to make this a 10 page debate as you do on PDK, or kerb weights, I have voiced my opinion on the matter and this is the last post on MC fitment by me in this thread.
People can make up their own minds like you stated who to believe.
IF you want a pedal with no travel, then as I said (or should I say as you said ;-p) " I would really hate to think anybody was making changes to their car based on your posts"
