in my 944s2 cab you had to 'use the force' when revering as screen was so dull, only bothered to clean it up when came to sell as refurbished and cleaned whole hood but was amazed at difference.

Personally I quite like the much larger plastic window providing its clear and fresh, and that can be replaced very cheaply.

Has anyone had any experience of having this done and can you recommend a company that do it?

They will give you impartial advice on replacing the plazzy with glass, and also do a very good job, whichever way you go.

I have seen on the internet that there are companies that replace the whole hood with a new one that incorporates a glass rear window.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have a 2000 C4 cab with a plastic rear window. I have seen on the internet that there are companies that replace the whole hood with a new one that incorporates a glass rear window. Has anyone had any experience of having this done and can you recommend a company that do it?
This company offers the 996 glass window upgrade if you don't want to change the whole thing. However, I have not seen the quality of the product or their work.

Yes you can get a glass window upgrade but because the frames and folding mechanism are different on the plastic window cars the glass window they can put in is of a different (and to my eye slightly odd?) shape so its worth having a good look first.
Personally I quite like the much larger plastic window providing its clear and fresh, and that can be replaced very cheaply.
Speak to the guys at Southbound Trimmers, Stockbridge, (Nr Andover, Hants).
They will give you impartial advice on replacing the plazzy with glass, and also do a very good job, whichever way you go.
I personally suspect they will advise against putting glass in without changing the whole hood, just my personal ramblings here.
I can recommend them as a previous very very satisfied customer with my 964, they did a complete retrim of interior, carpets and hood and it was a thing of beauty to behold.
They have a fairly long waiting list, sometimes up to 3 or 4 months, as customers travel from all over europe to get them to do the work.
Good luck
the plastic window polish is superb stuff, its under 10 quid (fleabay or porscheshop etc)and can get your plastic window back to a1 with 30-40mins of elbowgrease.

I have had about 6 or 7 off these people including a Porsche one, they are identical to OEM fabric in every way.
I can fit these (Worcestershire area)
+1 on the plastic window cleaner.
My local idie lent me the porsche tequipment plastic window cleaner.
this was amazing and i cant recommend this enough, its like milk and contains no grains. i thought this would never work, but it did and looks almost new.
Glass rear screen
I've recently bought a 996 C4 Cab 2001 with the original plastic screen. It had a slight crack in it, which has got a lot worse with the poor weather.
There is a screen cleaner mentioned earlier that does clean it up, but this is no substitute for glass & I think the plastic makes the car look dated & shabby (I know it's original).
If you try to get the roof down in the cold, it will probably snap the plastic & so you can only ever really get the cab experience in pure summer.
So here's what I did.
Got in touch with BAS International (Google them). Got an aftermarket brand new mohair hood with glass screen for £700. The quality is as per original. Took it to a coach fitter (Barton & Sons) in Luton & they fitted it in a day about £450.
The screen is smaller than the original plastic, because glass doesn't fold. That way there is no tinkering with the mechanism, but the finish is exceptional. Really glad I did it.
Only one thing that annoyed me though.
The heated screen on a Cab is screened/ shielded in the hardtop slots. On a Boxter the after market roof just slots in & away you go with rear demister (wired to the button on the dashboard). On the Carrera you need a technician to solder the link to the slots. Very easy job once you opened up the roof & got behind it. Not something I can do.
JZ Machtech have said they can do it. So I'll be getting it done when I next get serviced. May as well have the demister if I'm going to all that trouble.
Hope it helps.
Apologies to all those who think we should keep the cars original.
