I was all set to have Tooki bluetooth + iPod installed over the weekend, when I got a call back from one of the dealers in my area (also a CS owner). He mentioned an
integrated
solution from Mobridge which is coming to market this month which supposedly has been designed to eliminate some of the problems of the Tooki. Has anyone heard of this integrated bluetooth + iPod solution? My guy says it's supposed to provide more functional stability - for less than $900 - and has the added benefit of an easier install.
He is doing his first install at the end of the month on a Cayenne Turbo. My interest is sufficiently piqued that I'll hold off for a few weeks to get some feedback on performance. In the meantime, any comments much appreciated.
I don't know much about it other than what's on their website:
www.mobridgeinc.com
. I have a Tooki and it works great for me, but I'm still curious to see how well this mObridge product integrates with the PCM.
A few differences with the mObridge unit I noticed from reading their website and some posts on other sites: it works with CDR23,24 and PCM, it apparently works with SMS, has an ipod connection, and I think firmware updates are via an SD-card slot.
For comparison, as far as I know the Tooki only works with PCM, doesn't work with SMS (would be nice but not a deal-breaker), no ipod connector (would be nice, but can always spend more and get a Dension unit), and firmware updates are via bluetooth connection with a windows xp software updater (which can be annoying since I don't care to own a single windows computer with bluetooth).
What about a spec.dock?
spec.dock - complete iPod and iPhone vehicle integration
I think it looks really good + it sits in a spot that's normally empty.
spec.dock isn't an interface, it's just a holder for your ipod that you can use with an interface such as the dension, navtv, mobridge. I talked to the owner of 2point5 several months ago and at that point they were using Dension gateway 500's in their integrated installations.
Before going with my AVIC-D3, I had a mobridge unit installed with the latest firmware, which is loaded onto a regular SD card, and had all sorts of problems. There seems to be a spotty record for this and the Denison units. Just be careful!
Here is a link to a review "somewhat" at Edmunds. It doesn't say much, but from this and Bimmerfest forums it seems you loose the use of the CD changer as the mObridge maps functionality to the CD1-CDx buttons.
Review of mObridge iPod interface - CarSpace Automotive Forums
I still don't get it. VW and Audi have factory integrated iPod solutions where is Porsche? And I thought Motorola was bad for not talking between divisions. :argue:. Oh well.

Thanks for the link - some of the comments on the mObridge iPod solution make for an interesting read... a few of the posts mention enhanced stability. The new interface that's being released is bluetooth, with integrated iPod functionality. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this works well!
mObridge v. Tooki
Any update on this install? I'm deciding on whether to get the Tooki or explore other options. Thanks.
