Hi All
My 2001 996's engine light came on about six months ago and after some investigation I discovered that the air intake pipe was loose. Once I secured it back on the engine light went off after the 5 x engine on/off.
The engine light came on again a week ago and this time the air pump wire connection had come off. ??Strange?? I put this back on and the engine light went off after the 5 x engine on/off.
I thought I had cracked it until today. :x The engine light has come on again but this time I could not see any visable problems. Everything seemed to be OK so I have purchased a ODBII reader and plugged this to the car and read the fault code. They are as follows...
4 Fault Codes
1. P0300 Random/multiple cylinder misfire detected.
2. P0301 Cylinder 1 misfire detected.
3. P0305 Cylinder 5 misfire detected.
4. P0304 Cylinder 4 misfire detected.
Now i have the fault codes I dont know where to start looking. I knew the car was misfiring but I didn't know why and I still dont???
Can someone point me in the right direction please?
Thanks!
My money would be on the coil packs on those cylinders being faulty.
If you would like the diagnosis and troubleshooting sheets for those fault codes, drop me a PM with your email address.
Hi Guys
Thanks for the advise.
Where is the coil pack located and can I purchase it from some where other than porsche?
Richard - I'll send you an PM re diagnosis and troubleshooting sheet.

CEL - P0300 Problem fixed.
Hi
I drove the car to work and the CEL started flashing (told not a good sign) and the car was misfiring really badly. I called Porsche and they quoted me £224 to change three coils, thats 1, 4 & 5. I rang Northway Porsche and he quoted me 32.5 per coil + £50 labour, all plus VAT. Ray (at Northway) said he could do it staight away as I needed the car every day. He done the work in a hour while I waited and watched him do it, total bill was £287.00.
The service was great and a job well done. If the CEL didn't start to flash I would have done the work myself as it was quite straight forward.
Thank you for all the help you have given.
Next job - Gear selector (I'll do this Weekend) & Rear discs
Cheers
