These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi
I bought some stainless bolts for my 993 exhaust today. In fact the nuts are better off being a bronze zinc alloy or copper coated steel I think.
The problem is that stainless "galls" which means it welds to itself and can be very difficult to remove.
I was going to use plenty of copperslip on mine to try to prevent this.

Just make sure your nuts arn't Nylock as they will melt and loose the locking feature, the OPC nuts have the "mechanical" locking mechanism but they are terrible for corroding.
Suppose you could use a shakeproof washer.

patgas - the fasteners between the headers and cat pipes are not bolts but captive studs which are fixed into the cat pipe flange. They are pressed into the steel flange. The nuts are on the header side.
You will need to split the joint, I suggest grinding them flush with the gasket face side once split and driving them out with a punch, since the knurling is straight.
The other option is to drill them out once you've ground them flush. Centre pop the stud then drill with a quality HSS drill as the studs are fabricated from very hard steel. Average quality drills will just blunt up and glow red!

Design 911 did the job for me which took an hour. The bolts/flange had to be heated before knocking them out! If you take a look under the rear end, all the nuts are the same...probably their worst design feature!!
yep
yes thanks i new they where studs but i am going to remove cats for ease heat up and try and punch out, shouldnt be a problem and if all else fails will drill them and i am going to replace with stainless nuts and bolts and cover in aluslip, cats will come off easy because hav recenltly put sports boxes on cheers for input, sorry when i said there was only one nut left on each side of cat i meant flange.
