Just bought a Cayman, which the previous owner (according to the paperwork) paid a porsche dealer to fit an
ipod
adapter.
This seems to consisit of a standard phone (headphone) jack in the armrest, the lead of which dissapears into a hole in the front of the armrest cubby hole.
If I connect an
ipod
, I can find no way of listening to it - doesnt work via CD or CD Changer (I dont have a CD changer). Some people have said these work via FM, but I cannot find the unit on any FM frequency...
Any ideas?
If it is FM (which I assume is sh*t), how do I check or change the frequency??
Any advice appreciated.
If this is the Porsche's musicplayer interface, yes, it's a wired FM modulator...
Try the low end of your tuning spectrum. I believe the only porsche branded input is FM -based. It is wired-fm, which will have no interference from other FM stations and will sound as good as the strongest FM station you can imagine.
I have this set-up for satellite radio and actually I am quite pleased with it. I would not qualify myself as an audiophile, but for driving in the Cayman and listening to a mix of sports, talk, and music I find the FM set-up to match the level of the base radio just fine.
Will have another play...

Right, well I've manually checked evry FM frequency with an
ipod
plugged in. so I can only assume it's broken....
It's possible it's not the OEM FM modulator interface, in that case it will have an on\off switch somewhere.
Hmm. Will have a look. It was bought in may last year at an OPC for £75. I may call them...
I have noticed with my aftermarket (non-Porsche) RF modulator, that the
iPod
comes through much quieter then any other FM station. You might want to turn the volume on your
iPod
as high as possible while looking for a station.
Thanks, tried that, but no joy. Beginning to think it is buggered...
Maybe it wasn't installed properly or a fuse has blown, etc. Installation is pretty easy with the articles on this site.
