need help: cdr24 stuck on startup, it just says "porsche" forever

hi, i've just ran into a problem with my cdr24 head unit where its stuck on the " porsche " on startup forever is there any way to reset the unit or something? car has bose but not pcm thanks for the time _

You could... 1) Take the fuse out and put it back in. 2) Take the key out of the car, lock it, give it 15 minutes. Unlock it and fire it up; that should reset the MOST bus. If that doesn't work... 3) Disconnect the battery, give it 5 minutes, reconnect the battery. - Suneet

I also have bose without pcm . I have had same problem often. Just turn off cd and then turn on change to FM radio. After that change to CD again. Try couple of times then it should work. Good luck.

Thats a little concerning that this is happening to several people, thats what I am going to have, BOSE with standard CD unit

my cdr24 "locked up" this morning for the second time in two monts. ejecting the cd was the only way to get it to "snap out of it".

Porcupine and Sung, When you say "locked up," does it lock up on the part where it says Porsche or does it say Stop. - Suneet

It says " PORSCHE " on the display.

I remember now my cdr-24 used to do that too... I would just hear a constant cd-spinning noise and it would say PORSCHE . I think it arises from the unit trying to load the cd and find it's last position, as sometimes after a while it would pick up the cd and start playing from the beginning. Other times, like you, I would have to eject and go to FM and then reload the cd. - Suneet

Are you playing shop purchased cd's or home burnt compilations. Often the home burnt CD's are thinner and warp in the drive but this will normally mean they skip. Infact is the standard Cd player mp3 compatible? or am I barking up the wrong tree?

mine are all store bought.

Exact thing happen with mine. Luckily mine occurred at the dealer and they were able to take it to the back and "reset" the computer. Haven't happened since. I believe I even tried removing the disk, switching to FM, and reinserting the disk with no luck (I tried all various combinations to try to get it to work). Sorry I can't help with a solution but at least you know you are not alone. -Moto

Mine was a bit different and happened yesterday for the first and only time. I drove the car to the store listening to a CD when I came out and started the car there was a high pitch squeal coming from the speakers. The PCM showed a loading CD message and just stayed like that. I tried to eject and the PCm message changed to ejecting CD but still no change or ejection and still the squeal. I tried shutting it off with no effect a couple of times I switched to FM and it worked fine but CD was still the same when I switched back. I drove home and was going to take it in this morning but when I sarted it today all is fine. So far.

Why is it we are putting up with these crappy radios? All I hear is, "well you know they are not noted for good radios" My 1978 rabbit diesel had a Blaupunkt radio with better reception.

Mine does this all the time. I pull fuse D9 and it fixes it for a while. I'm going to take it in to the dealer sometime soon. My Chrono is broke too.

Ejecting the CD works. Can get confused if it is loading a CD and you start pressing other buttons too soon.

I got the dreaded PORSCHE phantom now in my BOSE H/U. It wont leave. Cant play anything, tried it all except disc the battery which I will do now. What's up with technology?

its not only Porsche . every factory stereo ive ever had in a car ( i usually get new cars every 2-3 yrs) has had some kind of quirks like this . from Mercedes to Ford to Chevrolet to BMW ......

My CD system has funny bootup screen Fortunately my system has not started freezing as yet, but everytime I get into the car and fire it up the splash screen comes up with a strange appendage under the porsche logo "Single CD Repair-Kit" I have checked the single cd loader in the front, it has nothing in it and the cd changer has all store bought audio cd's I can use all the audio / tel / nav etc functions on the unit but this is bugging me because I am pretty sure it should not be there! If anyone has any ideas on what this could be and how to get rid of it I'd be really appreciative. Thanks Rob

Did you recently take your car in to get it serviced by the dealer? There is a TSB that affects 540 2005 Boxsters where the cd drive doesn't properly function to play mp3's, wma's or burned cd's and the fix for it is a software update specifically called: " PCM 2.1 Repair Kit CD-ROM." At the bottom of the TSB it says: "After the update is completed, the PCM will turn off and then on again automatically. If it doesn't turn on automatically, switch it on using the left rotary knob, Do not take the Repair Kit CDROM out of the CD slot. When the PCM2.1 is switched on, the message "Repair Kit Single CD" appears underneath the Porsche logo on the start screen. Well, as the TSB continues you realize this is only stage 1 of the update process. Your tech removed the cd, and did not complete stage 2 stage 3 of the update and your PCM is asking for the disk so that the update can finish. Take it back into the dealer and have them complete the process. It is workshop campaign W610.
