Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Got an excellent second hand set for £50 (bargin) and Dyno Flow converted them for £50 (another bargin) and Sport and Classic fitted them £150 (although you can do this yourself but i'm not that confident) so £250 all in, and let me say, a wide grin on every acceleration, and perfect on tick over, no drone on the motorway, PERFECT!

These are big PSE, in other words I have used a 60mm mandrel bent tube from the top cap to the exit tube, this gave a slightly louder growl (not too loud, infact most would want even more but 100% these do not drone at any rev-range) I have also de-wooled them to get a tinnier Ferrari zing to them (it is so hard to describe sound but I hope that gives you an idea)

As for getting fed up, i only use my for weekend fun, but unless you are pushing on there is no difference to the originals, espically on tick over, they really are great, only my opinion though :thumb:

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.
911uk: 1 discussions
0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.
1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

There are numerous threads on here where people enthuse about the Oettle back boxes (mufflers) bought off eBay. However they don't seem to be available for 996 3.4s anymore.
However something similar does appear to available on eBay off Marc Sommerfeld, but I can not find anyone of 911uk.com that has bought one.
Has anyone any experience of these Marc Sommerfeld BBs? Do they sound similar to the Oettle ones that everyone raves about? Are they of comparable quality?
As an aside I'm considering these modded BBs again after a friend of mine bought Milltek BBs and has been decidedly underwhelmed by the sound, it's almost the same as the standard BBs. Although it has to be said the quality is very good, fine if you want a standard sounding system.
Get yourself some second hand 3.4 or preferably 3.6 back boxes, get them to a local engineering shop, and get the mod done yourself. Mine cost £120 for a low mileage set of 3.6 back boxes, plus £80 for the mod.
You'll not be disappointed. :thumb:
Can you fit the 3.6 boxes on a 3.4 ? I thought I'd read on here somewhere that the were incompatible.
On another note, I've seen Oettle appear on eBay again, however they don't list any 996 mufflers on the "English Muffler Page", even though they list them for 997s and 993s!
Thanks for that, a couple of interesting options to ponder ...
So far in the running are as follows:
- Oettle-style (PSE copy) bypass mod (by either Oettle, Sommerfeld or local engineering shop
- Carnewal RSR
- DesignTek (sound option)
I can't believe it's so hard to decide on an exhaust for a 996! I gues it wouldn't be if PSEs were 600 quid from Porsche ...
I have Oettles and love them
plus you get a warranty with them, and they are refurbished which your second hand ones you modify yourself/local shop wont be...
email mr oettle, he is v helpful, and speaks good english i found when i bought mine, i had some worries and he sorted me out
Another one for doing the mod yourself!
You won't be dissapointed, promise :thumb:
I see that Mike at Sports and Classic does an exhaust swap for £299 plus vat. Do you think that it's roughly the same as your modification :?:
I've been thinking of getting mine done but would like to hear one first. Not sure if it would be a pain after the first couple of months.
Yeah, can't see why not, Mike said that on fitting mine they sounded the same, so would say so. As for getting fed up, i only use my for weekend fun, but unless you are pushing on there is no difference to the originals, espically on tick over, they really are great, only my opinion though :thumb:
I have a pair of BIG PSE moded 3.4 boxes about to go on sale, they are not overly loud but certainly growl quite nice.
They have also had the wire-wool acoustic lining removed, this had a really good result.
Be the first to try Lloyd-Six Phase one performance boxes!

I can do them £395 fitted or inc. delivery which ever suits. Ok a little more money than the others mentioned but a tad more work done to them.
I will sort some photos over the weekend.
