Start with clean bolts, use medium strength Loctite (blue) and torque them to spec; they will stay put.

Suggestion

I find this annoying as well, why couldn't they use a blue container for the Locktite Blue..?

i've not had to use threadsealer but it's never a bad idea.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Folks I m hoping someone may be able to advise. I have a T Reg Porsche Boxster 986 and my driveshaft has fallen out twice, but luckily not at any speed as it has happened while initially accelerating. I have had the bolts and brackets changed twice and this time I have only become aware of them sheering off again (2 next to each other) because I have had an oil leak so spotted while searching for its origin. Anyway I cant think what is causing the bolts to loosen and then sheer off. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you Greta

POST 2Original post

These bolts tend to shear when they become loose. Start with clean bolts, use medium strength Loctite (blue) and torque them to spec; they will stay put.

POST 3Original post

I'm old enough to remember when Loctite Blue came in... wait for it... a blue container. Not the current Red versions like ummmm.... Loctite RED Due to success disguising contents within packaging, rumor has that the former VP of Marketing at LocTite moved on to an outfit known as AB-InBev

POST 4Original post

as you pass the bolts through the inner cv they will pick up grease and not hold torque. so make sure you swab out the bolt hole openings in the cv prior to installing the (clean) bolts and don't move the cv too much during installation to avoid more grease weeping in. i've not had to use threadsealer but it's never a bad idea. and i agree - what's with the blue stuff in the red container?

Yep... used to be so much easier discerning at quick glance.
