Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I asked this in my other thread but probably needs it's own post. I am putting a 2002 transmission in my 1999 996 c2. The clutches are listed as fitting 99-01 and 02-04. Do I need to order a clutch for the 99 or the 02? What I have found out so far makes no sense. There are 2 different part numbers but can't find a reason for it. Flywheel is the same for both years Throw out bearing is the same Slave cylinder is the same Clutch release lever is the same clutch disc is the same If it were to have a LSD transmission, everything is the same except the clutch. The place I am getting the transmission from compared the 02 clutch to a 99 clutch and said it looks like the prongs on the pressure plate stick up a little higher. Otherwise no visual difference.

No one has any ideas? What do people use when they put a 3.6l engine in an '01 or older car? I emailed Sachs about it and got this reply: After viewing both clutch kits they are identicle with the exception of the pressure plate. I don't have any technical information regarding clamp loads but I do know the '02 911 had a little bit more power so the difference could be in the clamp load. The bolt patterns appear to the same but I am only looking at pictures. The other thing to look into is the stack up height. I really can't tell you which will work best for you because we catalog our kits to OE specifications. Therefore, we don't have a lot of technical data because it is assumed we are selling OE replacements and not modified applications. This is something you will need to look at closely to determine which clutch you will need based on the things I mentioned above.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well unless someone comes up with something for which is needed, a clutch for a 99 is going in next week. I hope it works.

POST 5Original post

Try contacting a race shop like EBS Racing in Reno. They do custom builds as well and may be able to clarify for you. It is possible that the new PP is an improved version of the early one. Personally, I would put in the newer PP because the 99 was the first year for the 996 and maybe there were problems identified with the original equipment longevity. I would still check with EBS for piece of mind.
