The gear knob has yet to be changed but will be soon, probably for a carbon one as it'll match the black interior better.
Leading evidence: 'Replace but will be soon, probably' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust height of the cover' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I put a clamp with a cloth - very gently - on it to hold it extended and it worked fine when changing the nozzle.

Suggestion
The clip pushes down and holds on a bit like a cable tie fastener and it looks like this would be used to adjust the height of the cover.

Can anyone recommend a good place to pick up a new gear knob from?

Changing the dials seems to be a bit more fiddly so I'll price it up and decide whether it is worth while or not, however, having had a quick google at lunch the white dials and chrome (or alloy) look surrounds would really set the dash of a treat.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello all.
I have been lurking on these message boards for a while now and have gleamed loads of info over the last few months, so, a thanks to all for answering my questions even though I never actually asked them. Anyway, now has come the time to step forward, say hi and ask a few questions of my own and tap into the wealth of knowledge the collective possess.
Qu1: I have an 02 996 C4S and noticed last night that the cover off my drivers side headlamp washer is missing (the chrome look plastic cover). The unit still works correctly but I'd like to get it sorted. On Porsche-Shop a replacement unit is £25 which includes a new cover. I am a bit of a novice when it comes to cars and wondered:
(a) will the new cover simply clip onto the old unit currently on my car? (a 2 second job)
(b) If the answer to (a) is 'no', how difficult is it to fit the new unit?
Qu2: In addition to the above I noticed that my gear knob is a touch worn and wanted to replace it, are they easy fit with an OEM item?
Qu3: Finally, white dials. I fancy a set of these just to finish off and brighten up the cabin a touch, is it best to go to a local independent and get them to install them or are they relatively straight forward for a novice? My local independents are Hartec and Jasmine as I live in Blackburn, Lancs.
Many thanks
Chris.

Thanks for the links and the welcome Richard, very much appreciated.
Looking at those links it appears that replacing the washer jet/cover is a doddle although I may end up a little wet!!
Regarding the gear knob, a friend showed me over lunch how to replace it and much like the washer jets it is very easy to do.
Changing the dials seems to be a bit more fiddly so I'll price it up and decide whether it is worth while or not, however, having had a quick google at lunch the white dials and chrome (or alloy) look surrounds would really set the dash of a treat.
Chris.
You might want to call Porsche-apart and see if they have the items you need in stock. They are in Ramsbottom and a friendly bunch. I also had washer jet troubles so they dismantled a unit in stock and sold just the bits I needed. :thumb:

I have no connection, just good experiences.
As said replacing washer cover is a doddle.
Replacing gear lever is also easy although levering the old one off sometimes needs a bit of effort and care not to damage surrounding leather/ dash. I got mine from porscheshop and it really makes a huge difference to the "mint" feel of the car, as its the thing you always see.
Not changed my dials.
Hi Chris and welcome.
As others have said the first 2 are a piece of cake. The third, having done this once myself, is don't bother... The stickers you buy aren't cheap anyway and don't look great at night. As the link suggested says call REAP, they only ever get good reviews.
Get some pics up once it's done though... :thumb:
Headlight washer
Thanks for all of the help that you all posted - I had the same problem with the headlight washer cover as Chris. Without the cover the extending arm thingy (you can tell my engineering knowledge here) is simple to pull out with pliers etc. I put a clamp with a cloth - very gently - on it to hold it extended and it worked fine when changing the nozzle. Easier to undo the clip with both hands free.
But... I have a question. The clip pushes down and holds on a bit like a cable tie fastener and it looks like this would be used to adjust the height of the cover. Should I just shove it right on or do I need to loosen it a bit?
Thanks.
Hi Guys, thanks for your help. The washer jet cover saga has now been resolved, a piece of cake. I ended up using the services of Jasmine (
http://www.jasmine-motorsport.co.uk/
) as i wanted to chat about the do's and don'ts of Porsche ownership as well as have a chat about servicing (i have had the car a week).
The gear knob has yet to be changed but will be soon, probably for a carbon one as it'll match the black interior better. I need to take it in for a minor service and a brake fluid change around March time so i will get saving and get everything done at once.
After looking into white dials i think i will give it a miss, that money can be better spent and will probably be put towards an aftermarket exhaust but which one? I'll do a forum search and see what the general consensus is (a retro fit PSE is off the cards that's for sure, far too costly these days).
Thanks for all help and feedback.
As for helping you toobusy, i have no idea. I was a touch lazy and asked the guys at Jasmine to sort it out whilst i had a coffee, however, the jet wasn't removed to replace the clip as far as i am aware and the cover just clipped on in place.
Chris.
Can anyone recommend a good place to pick up a new gear knob from? Mine's showing signs of wear, but my google-foo is only leading me to sites wanting a three hundred quid or so. I appreciate that I'm driving a Porsche, but it is just a gear knob, and I'd rather spend that money on another modification...
