Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I took a Kenwood system out of my car (fitted before I got it) to fit a Pioneer AVIC, and you wouldn't believe the mess the so-called professional fitter had made.

Suggestion
When I had my car done they hadn't seen a Porsche before, and I had to supply the matching crossovers - they need to match the speaker impedences, typically 4 or 8 ohms but you'll need to check your speakers.
Leading evidence: 'Install before i got it)' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'bit of a concern' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check speakers' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

thanks for the replies, the MOST issue is a bit of a concern but I did plan on getting a specialist to install so maybe not such a problem ?, thanks, Lee

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Can anyone recommend a good double din sat nav (pioneer?) and whether it's compatible with a 2002 MY 911 targa?, also, what sort of prices have been quoted for the install (have to move the AC module). Finally, what about the lack of security with these, no removable panels etc, thanks, Lee
Do a search on "double din". Lots of options.
Your car will be "pre Most" which means for a pretty simple swap. Not a tough DIY and I did my own with assistance from the forum. You may well need a wiring harness (for an Audi) at about £30 and a bit of cutting and sawing of the dash plastics but really pretty straightforward. The only odd thing is the surround as the slot in the 996 is slightly taller than a normal double din (though the same width). Again plenty of discussion on this and there are available custom pieces.
Great mod to make and really updates the whole interior feel of the car.
I'm planning on installing a AVIC-F10BT from Pioneer. I think that's about top of the line when it comes to their 2DIN headunits.

The security is taken care of with a code, just as with most OEM units.
Disconnect the power and the unit will need the code entered to work.
To get a good OEM-looking install, I've already bought this kit from Euro Motorspeed:

The kit includes everything you need, even the trim for relocating your A/C unit
Best Double Din and Compatibility
Sorry Andrew M, but I believe a 2002 model yr onwards 996 is MOST. I have a Targa and it MOST certain is!
So fitting is much more complicated with you having to by-pass the amp etc. There is a thread where this has been done successfully.
Cheers
David
thanks for the replies, the MOST issue is a bit of a concern but I did plan on getting a specialist to install so maybe not such a problem ?, thanks, Lee
Not such a problem at all. My car has MOST, I had a specialist install a Kenwood double-din, new amp, crossovers and speakers. The specialist came recommended and knew exactly what would be suitable, it was obvious they were familiar with the 911.
I've been impressed with the Kenwood but if I was looking now, that Pioneer kit it would be a real contender.
Re: Best Double Din and Compatibility
I thought that most 02 cars were not MOST, only later in the year. But I will defer to those who know better. Definitely an easier job pre-MOST.
I popped into 'ICE' at Peterborough yesterday and they said they'd install but would need to have the car for an hour or so to determine how much it will be/difficulty etc. They've not had a 911 before but I guess if you've done other marques the process is probably quite similar. The pioneer AVICs seem good, still worry about some chav stealing it though, the codes are fairly easy to crack?, Lee
Mmmm I guess the process is similar but not sure I'd want my car to be the first 911 they tried and install on. The specialist that did mine came recommended by Porsche Sheffield, it was a worthy recommendation too. Might be worth having a chat with the OPC near you to see if they can recommend anyone.
Totally agree. Dont let anyone who has not done a 996 (ideally a few) in the past touch your car. There are a lot of silly quirks to the 996 that its best to know in advance.Particularly if its a MOST car
Don't worry, if the fitter hasn't seen a Porsche it makes little difference in my opinion. If your car is 'most bus' then just disconnect it - nothing more needs to be done but you wont be able to use the Porsche AMP.
The sat aerial receptor is already in place on your car, it's just under the plastic cover that houses the alarm flashing led. This cover needs to be removed with care as the tabs break off easily, just squeeze the cover gently inwards at each end, like squeezing a bannana and it should pop out. The aircon unit will need to be moved to the bottom of the console, the standard harness stretches down and OPC supply a tailor made bezel.
Now here's the difficulty. if you want to drive all your original speakers, assuming that you have 6, you'll need to fit crossovers to drive the base mid-range and tweeters at the front. Any good fitter will have done this many times before - if they haven't then find one who has.
Overall it is the quality of the individual doing the job that is important, not that fact that they've worked on a Porsche before or not. If they have then thats all upside as they'll do the job quicker.

My car was done by a company in Hemel Hempstead, but there was a firm in Welwyn Garden City who were also a Pioneer dealer - so google and see what comes back.
