This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

As some of you will know I have taken on the challenge of fixing poor Zamo's 2004 996 C4S as quickly as possible to a small budget. Can someone answer, i.e Richard, a little question about the C4S exhaust cans. Do the exit tubes go from the box straight to the tail without a join very much like they do on a 997? The 98 to 04 C2 & C4 have bolt on bends but when I looked at Zamo's car it looked all as one (it was dark) A picture of an OEM C4S rear box would be great. The other question is are the turbo tails flust flat with the bumper cut out? I can only seem to find slash-cut on Ebay, I was certain they were not a slash??? Also... can anyone help me locate the following parts at realistic prices: Rear bumper assy Rear Red reflector (sits between both rear lights, only C4S models have this) Pair of turbo tail pipes

POST 2Original post

As far as I can tell, the exhaust cans are exactly the same externally as the C2/C4, and the tips clamp on in the same way. Thinking about it, the PSE is the same part for all 996 models, and you re-use your own tips - so they must be the same.

POST 3Original post

I got hold of a pair of C4s boxes second hand and they were identical to the ones I took off my C2. Direct replacement with the same clamps for the tips. So should be the same for you.

POST 4Original post

I have an 04 996 C4S. It's currently cold dark and white outside - but I'll figure out somewhere I can back the car and take pictures of the exhaust when it gets light.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

That would be great. Got to say there are some nice people on this forum.

POST 6Original post

Lloyd, the exit pipes are the same as C2/C4 carreras in that the pipe is formed to a flange and tail pipe is fastened to it by the patented 'instant rot' single threaded clamp. What is different are the tail pipe trims, they're not integral to the pipe like on other C2/C4 models. The C4S trims slide off the exit pipe rearwards, through the cutaway in the rear PU. Also the exit pipe has a stand-off bracket at the bottom which clamps to the cat section for added strength.

POST 7Original post

Apologies After a 3 hour trip to Waitrose (Hell isn't other people, it's other people trying to drive on snow) I've abandoned today's photo shoot and will try later in the week.

POST 8Original post

Apologies - I just remembered. Would it still be useful if I parked the arse over the end of something and took some snaps? Again - sorry - snow, flu, snow, bronchitis sort of got in the way and I forgot!!! Jonathan
