Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi - does anybody know as my front bonnet HAS to stay open? I opened the fuse box to see if I could pull out the fuse but there is no fuse plan in there???? Please can someone help (car is uk 1998 c2). Thank you.

POST 2Original post

Are you not able to shut the bonnet whilst charging? I can, but the crocodile clips on my trickle charger are quite small. I simply trail the cable out of the top of the bonnet (by the windscreen). Cheers Adam

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm afraid not - this is a bulky "proper" charger which has a big extension lead attached to it. I don't want to leave the charger in the boot. Does anybody know the fuse number so I can just turn off the boot lights ?

POST 4Original post

As you have got the luggage compartment open anyway, wouldn't it be easier to take the bulb out rather than the fuse? TB

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Can you just pop the cap off or do you have to take the rather large black case around the light off? Don't want to mess about with it too much Don't mind the bulb fusing just don't want to mess the recharge process up by having the battery being used to power the light?

POST 7Original post

The light is just clipped into the black panel. You can unclip it with your fingertips. Once it's out, the connector just pulls off the bottom. Just make sure the cable doesn't drop back through the opening - not that it is difficult to remove the panel to retrieve it.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

THANKS AGAIN RICHARD !!!!!!! Took 5 secs to pop the light and disconnect it. I'm so used to my M3 where these little things were considered - guess it's the quirks of the car which no doubt I'll come to love ETA: I have found a fuse plan on the net, but I think that's for the american cars as it suggested fuse A5 but that didn't do nothing...will track one down from an indy!

POST 9Original post

Easy when you know how! If it's the fuse plan on RennTech, I did that one, and it applies to all 996's, not just US ones.

POST 10Original post

On 993s, the trick is to manually latch the lock shut, remembering to open it again BEFORE slamming the lid shut !

POST 11Original post

Exactly, just push the latch itself shut - does that not work on a 996?

POST 12Original post

The latch on a 996 is quite a bit different to the 993. The latch itself is under a plastic panel with a slot in it for the 'striker' bar on the lid. You can't see the latch mechanism, and it would be a bit fiddly to set it with a screwdriver, etc.

POST 13Original post

Funny this as my bonnet light goes out when the interior lights go out so I have no problem with it open whilst charging.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Richard - I used the one from Renntech - does that imply the boot light is A5? As for the other question - my light was still on after 20 mins - so didn't experience any auto shut-off

POST 15Original post

A5 is for the instrument cluster lights and rear number plate light. The interior lights are controlled by the alarm system. I wouldn't recommend pulling the alarm system fuse, as it will set off the alarm siren.
