In other words, if you have the HI-FI system, when the CDR-23 is turned on, the CDR-23 performs a quick check of the VIN (security feature) and then checks for peripherals that are programmed into the CDR-23 such as the Porsche CD changer, Becker amp, etc.

I have an '03 C2, without the Bose system. Could the original Becker amp be replaced with a Bose unit, or would the Bose not work w/ the non-Bose speakers? Thanks.

I'm almost 99% certain you can NOT just replace the Becker MOST amp with a Bose amp. If my memory serves me well, the factory (and dealership) programmed the MOST based head unit to connect to specific units. In other words, if you have the HI-FI system, when the CDR-23 is turned on, the CDR-23 performs a quick check of the VIN (security feature) and then checks for peripherals that are programmed into the CDR-23 such as the Porsche CD changer, Becker amp, etc. If the CDR-23 was configured for Bose, then when it's turned on, it must "handshake" with Bose components. If it notices a missing unit, then it will alert on the display. Pretty common problem with the PCM double din units. Many of the complaints with the CDR-23 have been surrounding it turning on, but no sound. IMHO, it's because it's not handshaking with the car correctly and on the CDR-23, it goes silent. Sometimes a complete reset (security armed and unarmed, lock then unlock) of the car will fix the CDR-23. In many cases, you have to go back to the dealership for diagnosis. Now, if you think it's the amp. Then just replace it with another MOST based Becker amp. I know a guy on a different forum that has one. Just PM me if you're interested.

Assuming it is the amp, can I just place another Becker unit in there and it will work? No re-programming of anything would be necessary?
