Scott also sent me an OEM file with the cats turned on and I have saved the old catted manifold, which did pass the State of Washington DEQ plugin test last year.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello,
I have a
2007 cayman s
I’m tempted to pull the trigger on
softronic
since there’s a nice holiday discount right now.
I’ve read up on all 3 options I still can’t make a decision so I’ve been putting off doing anything.
Overall which would bring the most value and performance?
The
Softronic tune
is the only option that will raise HP and performance. Sport modes and sprint boosters have zero impact on actual car power. Both are just a throttle remapping that condenses a normal linear 0-100% throttle down into a smaller travel range so you are actually applying more throttle that you normally would for the same pedal position. Sport
headers
and a tune are the two biggest bang for the buck upgrades for these cars if an increase in power is desired.
As stated, the
Sprint Booster
and sport mode both just remap the throttle pedal. It is correct that they add zero power or actual performance. That said, they make the car feel a LOT more responsive, and the
Sprint Booster
is pretty much the best upgrade I made to my 2010 CS.
If you've got a manual it also makes rev matching much easier.
Sport mode (
Sport Chrono
) does more than just a throttle remap. It also widens the slip angle before TC kicks in (so you can get the rear out a bit more). Also, if you have
PASM
, sport mode firms up the suspension into sport mode as well.
If it were my money, I would get the Softronics tune and Sport Mode.
Softronic
with plenum and throttle body is $2300 before install, and that combo gets you a (claimed) 25HP. That's less than a 10% improvement over stock. Generally speaking, chiptuning normally aspirated cars just isn't worth it.
Sport mode is $900, again before install, which requires a dealer.
Sprint Booster
right now is $230. It installs easily, and if you don't like it you can always pull it out and sell it.
I simply installed Softronic software at about $ 1,200 and got a tremendous boost in low-end torque. I haven’t dynoed it, but have about a 2-second improvement in lap times to show for my investment, in which I am, needless to say, well-pleased. “Worth it” is a relative term, I reckon.

The factory Sport-mode and the
Sprint Booster
are a waste of time if you are looking for increased power... neither will delivery it.
I've run APR and Evolution Motorsports software on my
2008 Boxster
S. The APR was okay, but you could tell it was conservative and although it was a 91 octane tune, it was never really happy here in California.
The EvoMS software has been amazing. I have two different tunes... Stage 2 and now the RS370 kit. While I typically agree tuning a naturally aspirated car is pointless,
Porsche
left a lot on the table with the M97 engines. The EvoMS RS370 kit requires other upgrades in addition to the software, but it's safe to say the car makes every bit of 370 horsepower. I have a friend with a 2019
911
Carrera
T and we're about even in terms of straight-line performance. The best part is the car is happy on California's crappy 91-octance fuel.
A lot of tuners promote power gains, but you should be looking for a company that provides solid drive-ability of the car after the software upgrade. The car should feel like it did from the factory, just with more power. Without a doubt I can tell you the EvoMS software drives like stock. There's no power peaks or valleys, no throttle-hang when you let out of the throttle or any other strange behavior. I would do it all over again and if I'm ever lucky enough to buy another
Porsche
, I'll be hitting up EvoMS for software on that one too.
I recently bought a Softronic flash and Soul long tube catless headers for my 2007 987.1 S. Scott at Softronics and John at Soul really did a nice job connecting the dots. My car also has a Porsche GT3 Plumen and 78 mm throttle body from Scott as well. His flash tied all of these parts together to provide a smooth delivery of power from 2000 to 7000 rpm. There is no flat spot any longer around 35-4500 rpm, just an excited motor producing a few more hp and torque. Although the 78 throttle body is slightly smaller than the newer 82 mm GT3 throttle body, this smaller throttle body is well suited for my 3.4 motor, rather than a 3.8 of the newer GT3's. Scott says the throttle body volume difference only occurs above 6000 rpm and less effective below 5000 where I really need all the torque I can get. I routinely shift at 6800 to save my motor. This completes the Softronic Cayman Power Plus Plumen Race Kit along with the EVOMS air intake kit.
I asked both Scott and John to provide a product that would act closely to the Sprint Booster, but making more power along the way. Scott assured me that I would notice the power difference in drivability with this combination of intake, Flash and exhaust. He customized the Race flash to include 93 octane fuel delivery map, more aggressive ignition map, retuning the remaining intake resonance valve and retuning the Vario Cam Plus. This massive file downloads within minutes. The result is a very smooth power delivery from idle to 7000 rpm.
How do you like the
Soul headers
? Is the fit/finish nice? Do you have any clearance issues? What
exhaust
are you running in conjunction with the
headers
?
I have a set of Racing Dynamics short-tube
headers
, but I’m interested in switching to the
Soul headers
with high-flow-cats in an effort to reduce the smell and sound output (my car is ridiculously loud at full-throttle).
I am using a Milltek stainless muffler and tip extensions connected to
Soul
long tube catless
headers
. I keep those mufflers polished so you can see them through the air
exhaust
vents in the bumper. Surprisingly, I do not smell a lot of
exhaust
on startup or when standing in the back of my car while idling. My car burns almost no oil between 3500 miles changes which is coming up soon. So, no blue or white smoke at startup. With Scott/Softronics massive
ECU
updated race file, my car really runs nicely. The
O2 sensors
are turned off by the file. Scott also sent me an OEM file with the cats turned on and I have saved the old catted manifold, which did pass the State of Washington DEQ plugin test last year. The State has eliminated this whole department as a money saver, so those 20% zip codes that were impacted can now drive without inspections.
I have a LN skid plate under my 2 Qt sump and was concerned about clearance to the front header pipe, but on install had plenty of room. The
headers
bolted up to my existing
exhaust
perfectly.
I just had some suspension and engine water/oil heat exchanger work at Cantrell MotorSports. Their alignment specialist told me that my
exhaust
setup was the best sounding
Cayman
he has heard- At least his endorsement was not negative. The
Soul headers
are a piece of art. The tubes are quite thick, which I believe affects the sound, especially above 4000 rpm. No drone to speak of at any rpm. Thanks.
