Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

When I replaced the MAF SC was back to kicking ***!
Leading evidence: 'Replace maf sc was back' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). it takes power to make power, creates heat while intercooling may be difficult to plumb, and extra maintenence of replacing belts.

Suggestion
Ruf has been very successful with SC on 996s and Boxsters - they do replace some of the motor's internals, though.

There’s a shop convenient for me that is going through testing on their Cayman SC install.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

How does that sound? There’s a shop convenient for me that is going through testing on their Cayman SC install. They said they will have a video ready soon with dynos to follow. I can’t quote a price but it should be under the current competition. Stay tuned.
For me, price isn't too big of a deal. I'm more concerned with reliability. I don't care if it will cost me $10k as long as it doesn't blow up behind me!
apsinkus, I think if you do your research and choose correctly you won't see any problems with aftermarket SCs. My M3's SC has been stellar. It's been a year since I've had it installed and no problems stemming from it. Only problem I had post install was a bad MAF which had nothing to do with the SC but did hinder the SCs performance. When I replaced the MAF SC was back to kicking ***! A lot of these companies bait people by claiming big HP numbers. Not me.
I don't like superchargers for a few reasons... it takes power to make power, creates heat while intercooling may be difficult to plumb, and extra maintenence of replacing belts.
What type of Supercharger is it? Roots type? Screw Type? Centrifugal Type? Rotex Type? There are differences to each one...
An MR layout has cooling issues as it is, so it might be wise to make sure this kit offers adequate cooling... extra radiator wouldn't be a bad idea.
Mike, sorry if I misunderstood. I guess I keep reading about some people wanting to get a superchager and this that or the other to increase power and I guess I equate it with boogering-up a beautifully engineered automobile. In my opinion, if it were me and I just had to have loads of POWER than what the Cayman can deliver, then I'm probably in the wrong car. I think by the time someone spends $$$K to modify the Cayman S to get more power they could probably get 911S or Turbo. My opinion only.
I think the appeal of a kit modded Cayman S that bests the 911 Turbo on a track, or in a straight line, is pretty high and IMHO, a Cayman with 407 hp at the wheels could do it.
It's not really a price I'll ever be able to justify, so I'll just envy those of you who make the plunge
Mike,
From what experiences of my friends I have seen, unless you almost rebuild the engine from ground up, supercharger will make the engine much less reliable.
M3 engines are a separate breed, not super/turbo charging an M3 is almost a crime
A lot of people will not invest in new rods, valves, and etc., therefor why not just swap in bigger engine if it fits. I personally am looking forward to dropping in X51 into my CS once the time is right. I know I will not be faster than TT, but if I wanted to, there are cheaper ways to achieve the speed. I can get Ariel Atom for a lot less money than TT and than go spank the $hit out of everyone on the track, even them Exiges and EVOs
No apologies necessary. I should've been more clear with my original post. And if I had 997 911 Turbo money, you bet your God I'd order one! But alas, I am nowhere near that salary bracket. Maybe one day...
I think there comes a point in one's life when you say to yourself, "Man, my car modding days have got to go!" Trust me, if I was a bit younger, the Cayman would've had its share of mods, probably more than what everyone else here has, but my modding days are over. The M3 will be my last.
It's actually refreshing to finally drive a car (my Cayman) that IMHO needs no modifications. My Cayman thrills me every time I drive it and everyone on the highway I pass seem to agree.
Hehe! I have to agree - not adding forced induction to the E46 M3 motor is a crime!
Hey, when you do drop in that 3.8 you better give me a ride or I'm banning you from Zone 13!
To the guy who said buy a turbo... with the lower price of Caymans on the used market, you can get a Cayman and supercharge it for substantially less than the cost of a turbo, and have a mid engine car that handles better.
One of the reasons that I wanted a S/C is because we pay so much import duty on a car (60%) that getting a turbo or so was out of the question at least for me. Getting a add on cost is marginal and I could in paper acquire an equal or superior level that a TT. And plus, I dont want a 991 turbo, a want a faster Cayman thats all. I think the Caymay S is the superior car, despite its lower HP. As far as reliability (vendor that is), this is a very important issue, I have already a recent bad experience if you do a search you will know why. Have fun. Saludos.
You know I PM'd Tach Miami the original poster about this setup a couple of days ago asking for the details, if they wanted to become a sponsor, etc. and haven't heard anything back.
