Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a torn CV boot on the outer rear of my 996 C4S. I had tied up the brake wear sensors for a track day, and they ended up wound around the boot and cut it. I've been looking at the 101 Projects book, but it is unclear whether the outer joint is rebuildable or not. Has anyone had experience with this? I don't have any noise from the CV joints - I was only thinking that if I'm going to take the axle off and take it apart, I might as well repack the joint. Secondarily, I find it easier to get the boot on with the axle apart - I haven't had luck with squeezing the boot over the fat end before.

POST 2Original post

The other joint is not replaceable, but you can remove(and replace if needed) the inner one. Once the inner joint is removed, you will be able to replace the outer joint boot. Just give the joint a good clean, and repack it with grease.
