I couldn't tell you the differance from a track standpoint as i installed the coilovers before my first track day with only 3,000 kms on the car.

Ive owned many cars and have lowered each one using differing methods, I just installed a set of pss9's on the cayman and let me tell you it is by far the best ride ive achieved!

how much is the ride comfort being compromised ( currently i used H&R springs)

Clay Man: haha, i wish i had the money to make such a big decision ( the money involved in coilovers is too much) if anything changes, i will post it in the classified section.

I have my 20' techarts sitting in my garage and I'm just waiting a couple more weeks to put them on and see how the ride quality changes with the bigger/heavier wheel + coilovers set pretty low.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

i've done searching the forum and i have comes up with this few questions.
1. from all the available coilovers, which one has the best quality. H&R, PSS9s, KW and any other coilovers that compatible with the CS.
2. Do i have to disconnect the PASM even though the coilovers has stated that it's PASM compatible?
3. let's say i didnt use it for track use, is it worth it to get coilovers?i like the looks of the car when it uses coilovers.
4. how much is the ride comfort being compromised ( currently i used H&R springs)
thanks.
Generally you want coilovers if you're going to mess with your suspension settings for differing situations like track, street, weather, etc.
But if you just want a lowered ride you're better off with aftermarket springs. Shop around and ask about spring rates if you want a more softer ride.
We've done all three of those on different Caymans (as well as springs) and in my mind the best of that bunch are the PSS9s. They seem to be the most compliant on the street and comfortable at the same time. The H&Rs still use those horrid-large front springs and have no dampening adjustment. The KWs seemed to be a bit mis-matched in terms of the spring rate and dampening. Quite bouncy but they did have a lot of adjustment. I could see those out-performing PSS9s when set up correctly and used at a track where there really aren't any pot-holes and so forth. The PSS9s were set up more for comfort on the street. Your ride will be more comfortable with PSS9s than H&R springs...
Shark: so the H&R coilovers still uses the springs from the car for the front end? is that the reason why they does not have any dampening adjusment? how about the rear?
currently i'm stuck between H&R and Bilstein. may be a little more research will get me a better understanding among those two brands.
what about the PASM? am i still able to use it even though the coilovers stated that it's PASM compatible?

my friends 996 rides BETTER than stock with PSS9s. i drove the car before and after. PSS9s are also very popular on e46 m3s and the concensus is the ride is better than stock.
I've had experience with PSS9's on my e46 M3 and the ride was better than stock suspension. I couldn't tell you the differance from a track standpoint as i installed the coilovers before my first track day with only 3,000 kms on the car.
I found there was enough adjustibilty with the PSS9's for the recreational track driver.
The Bilstein's gave me that slammed look in city driving with no rubbing issues.
Had the coilovers on the car up until the day i sold it with 60,000 kms with no problems of quality.
Ive owned many cars and have lowered each one using differing methods, I just installed a set of pss9's on the cayman and let me tell you it is by far the best ride ive achieved! On the softest setting a much softer ride than stock and near the hardest setting almost track like stiffness. Ive lowered some rides with springs only and almost always the car was either too low(bottoming out and crunching parking curbs) or too high and there's nothing you can do about this after installed. Also almost every car eventually needed new shocks after awhile because the shorter, harder springs eventually blew out the shock. If you add up the cost of new shocks along with springs you will be at or above the price of the pss9's! without the adjustability! To me it was a no brainer and im glad i went this route. Hope this helps!
tokz - if you can wait a little longer, there's Pss9s that are compatible with PASM that's in the testing stage - K-ManS is supposed to be testing a set in the next couple of weeks. If one has, and wants to retain the flexibility of PASM, this is by far the best solution out there... it's just not quite ready yet.

I have the JIC Cross suspension from farnbacher and really like them. The springs are slightly stiffer and the dampers adjust from very soft to very stiff. (fifteen clicks). High quality and good for the street and track.
my car is a daily driver but i do Drivers Ed events a couple times a year...but having a car with a better suspension will up you enjoyment of your cayman 10 fold...at least. just make sure you get a system that is adjustable like the bilsteins or JIC Cross.
Thanks for the reply guys!
beez: so currently there is no coilovers that compatible with PASM in the market? i thought there are already some that offered it? i think Techart offered it. well, i'll wait about K MAN's review.
Croconyx: what is a cross suspension? is it another name for coilovers? may i know how much does it cost you?
tokz...gator bite sounds like he is on top of this stuff more than me...i do not have pasm
"CROSS" is the brand name of the coilovers set up that is made by a company called "JIC". Farnbacher Loles sells them and have put them onto quite a few Caymans and they could tell you their opinion about whether it is a good fit for a car with PASM. Kip is the service guy there and seems to be very knowledgeable about this stuff. google them, i dont have thier number in front of me.
have fun
I installed H&R Coilovers about two months ago. I am very happy with them, and currently my car is very very low... ride is harsher than stock but it is not something you can't live with. I have my 20' techarts sitting in my garage and I'm just waiting a couple more weeks to put them on and see how the ride quality changes with the bigger/heavier wheel + coilovers set pretty low. By the way, I got them for about $1800 shipped from tire rack. I have PASM and I had to disconect it, now I'm waiting for tomorrow to have it disabled so the "pasm failure" warining goes off.
thanks for the reply guys.
i think i'm just gonna wait for the PASM version. i think it's not worth it to disable a function that i paid for.
987bs: actually, i was tempted at the price that H&R has. compared to pss9s it's way much cheaper. but i wasnt sure whether it's PASM Compatible. so thank you so much for the information.
btw, i'm really interested to see how is the ride going to be after you installed those wheels. i just took off my wheels and the car feels so light and soft. just a little stiffer compared to stock (since i change the springs). just keeps us updated!
tokz, i've had my techarts since day one, thats a year and a half, and when i took them off my car felt weird, lighter but less stable, I dont know why, but I like more the ride with the 20' techarts. Anyway, after I took them off I installed the coilovers. I'll keep you informed when I install my techarts.
987: that is the exact opposite of me! i realized that, after changing to stock rims, the car handles better and i have more feeling of the road too. more repsonsive i guess is the better word. well, to each his own. looking forward for your experience after putting those wheels back!
Croconiyx:if you dont mind, may i knw how much does that coilovers cost you?

let me know if you can get a set of pasm compatibles, i dont want to sacrifice my pasm as well
)
best,
tokz - i'm guessing you don't like the firmness of the H&R springs. Have you ever thought about switching to a less agressive set of springs? like eibach or techart?
angels_spear: i will keep this news updated ! !
dimitri: actually there is no problem with the H&R springs that i'm using right now. it's just that the gap at the rear fender is quite significant (to my own eyes i believe) and i would also lke to have my car slammed. btw, eibach and techart springs are the same. the techart's are made by eibach.
I'm currently debating on H&R springs or the sway bars. Which one would make the biggest difference for the track. I don't really care about the looks of a lower car just want the performance. I also have pasm and didn't want to switch to coilovers and not be able to you this.
hey silentwill... although it's a pain to install the front one, I've certainly noticed a difference on PSS9 cars with and without the H&R sways. Making sudden lane changes on a freeway for example induces a good amount of body roll. With the sway bars it's a lot flatter... that sort of thing.
i thought coilovers are supposedto be adjusted in many different ways?
so you can get the stiffness and the height and the same time. but i'm still not sure about this.
