Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Model: early Mk I 996 cabriolet I recently raised my top and proceeded to close the rear quarter windows, but "nothing" happened. I suspect the latch mechanism is failing to actuate the relay switch. (I more or less proved the source of the problem by manually pushing the relay in as I partially raised the top,,and then manually operated the relay switch, then raised the quarter windows, and finally fully closed the top. This is an awkward process to say the least. Some old info. in my files indicates there has been a TSBissued on this subject (TSB 13/98 6119). This TSB supposedly has more info, about this problem. Any further info, about this problem from Forum members will be appreciated. Please rsvp to [email removed] .

POST 2Original post

The windows should all close automatically after the top latches closed and you keep your finger on the button. Check the plastic cover of the latch hook to see if it's cracked. That's a fairly common problem.

POST 3Original post

Yup, what Bill said. If not that, then look at the microswitch at the windshield latch mechanism. If this latch doesn't think it's engaged, the rear windows won't move....as I just found out when putting on my new hardtop and forgetting to fully secure the front latch.

JTT and Wyovino's replies are on the button. Thanks, guys; Rennlist rocks! relinuca

POST 5Original post

Search around. There is a hack fix to the broken plastic "hook" that involves cutting off the broken bit and gluing on a new piece.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks to Porsche of the Village's astute service consultant (David Profitt) in Cincinnati, I got the correct part name and latest PET number: 996.561.787.01.01C, Roof Catch Cap. Part has now been ordered. Full report pending. relinuca

POST 7Original post

Good info I hadn't had time to chase it yet but my 1/4 windows don't go up when the soft top is up, but do when the hard top is on.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
