i was wandering... i just installed my fabspeed header with no cat.. and i did installed the o2 sensor back... strangely there is no check engine light...
is this usually an instant event? or it will turns on in a couple of days??
if it will triger my check engine light .... anybody know how to fix it?
When you say you installed the 2nd O2 sensor back, do you mean you reprogrammed your 2nd O2 sensor to be active again by reflashing your ECU? If your 2nd O2 sensor was taken out previously, "something" had to be done to tell the ECU that it wasn't there, wasn't needed, was there but fooling the ECU, whatever.
If you simply removed the 2nd O2 sensor the ECU would throw a check engine light immediately. If you put it back in and ran open headers you would throw a CE sometime in the first 20-25 minutes when the ECU completes its check of the cat warm-up efficiency which I think also depends upon the temp sensor readings the car is getting.
i didn't reprogram the ecu again..
there are 2 o2 sensors on each side of the header.. so we have 4 o2 sensors all together.
i simply transfer all the 4 o2 sensors from the OEM headers back on the catless fabspeed headers. i didn't do any mods to the o2 sensors yet, but the car doesn't give me any check engine lights( which is good for now) and i did drive the car kinda hard from san hose to san fransisco (20 min drive)
how many people actually installed fabspeed headers yet? or any other catless headers?
it could still come one but the computer looks at the differance between the 2 sensors: the one upstream in the exhaust manifold (now in your header), and the one downstream in the exhaust cat back. so if you still have the 2nd set of cats in your catback (im assuming) they may be cleaning up the emission enough to not trigger the CEL. BTW, there is a good trick to prevent CELS if you are borderline, ie, getting an occasional CEL. go to pep-boys and pick up 4 (u'll probably only need 2) "spark plug indexers". drill out the center so its large enough to accomodate the O2 sensor (just the sensor portion itself) so basically u screw in the indexer into the header/exhaust and then screw in the o2 sensor into the indexer. itremoves the O2 sensor from the direct flow of the exhaust. sometime u need to use 2 to really get o2 away from the flow.
Your first line answers your question. You didn't reprogram your ECU again, which means your ECU was programmed the first time to remove/ignore the 2nd O2 sensors. Your open headers aren't scrubbing the exhaust at all so if your ECU was looking for the 2nd set of O2 sensors you would be tripping check engine lights all day long. The problem as I see it is two-fold, one you are losing power by not having some backpressure in the catless headers and two, if you have removed your catback exhaust to go Tubi or AWE, etc. then you have no cats anywhere in your exhaust system at all which means you are polluting the environement for the rest of us. Oh, and your car is illegal as driven, but hey I know that doesn't bother some people... your car would also likely not pass inspection in California.
I have a full fabspeed exhaust installed in my
cayman
it is great and sounds so damm good. It does does get a little load at slow cruising speed but it is a track car mostly so i dont mind. Why would you remove the cats it wont get you any extra horse power and wont let car get its max performance
And why would you want to destroy the planet? We are going to lose or precious driving rights soon enough without getting there faster by creating more pollution.
(Although I've always thought there might be a spare planet in your past...just KIDDING about the last comment...
- for the Super Sensitive that are here)
i didn't remove the cat... i ordered the one with no cat..
today... my check engine light is on...
anybody knows how to trick the o2 sensors?
i wouldn't be destroying the planet if the price for fabspeed header with cat is not 3000 dollar
