Lastly, I'm thinking about changing the rear wing to a slightly larger one - either same colour as the car or carbon.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Morning All, I've a 996 Turbo S that I've had tweaked by altering the software and putting new fuel pressure regulators on, taking power from around 450bhp to around 510bhp. I'm considering adding a sports exhaust (i've been looking at those supplied by JZ Machtech) - partly for more power and partly for better sound. The blurb on the JZM website says that the exhaust will add a minimum of 18bhp. Does anyone know how the works I've had done (the Turbo S came with the larger K24 turbos and intercoolers and then the work i've done since) will affect this? Will I get more or less than the 18bhp? Also, will it affect the power delivery? Has anyone lived with the stage 2 sports exhausts supplied by JZM (or similar)? Any practical advice? Will the extra noise end up driving me mad? Lastly, I'm thinking about changing the rear wing to a slightly larger one - either same colour as the car or carbon. Any advice on where to get this done and price? Thanks in advance for any help provided.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yup. That includes VAT and fitting and is complete system including tail pipes etc etc.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Mike, do i guess right that you think this sounds expensive? Would you recommend I consider alternatives?

POST 5Original post

Hi, It does sound very expensive !..... you could buy a milltek system that would give 20BHP + fitted for £2500 ....or a modification from us at £750-00. Just seems alot to me. Mike

POST 6Original post

They look like europipe exhausts to me http://www.europipe.be/images.html

POST 7Original post

Just out of interest, would someone in a 510bhp car feel the extra 18 horses? If it's just for the sound then I would also concur £4.5k is quite a premium to pay. ~ Maxie

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the replies. All useful thoughts. I agree that 20bhp is not going to be noticeable but I don't know whether what I would get would be more or less than that. I'm afraid I'm no engineer so don't know how the reduction in back pressure would affect the performance on a turbo-charged engine versus a normally aspirated one. Also, whether there would be a change in power delivery. If it's just 20bhp and no change to anything else except sound then i agree £4,500 seems a hell of a lot to pay (a fair few trips to Spa or the Ring). Any other thoughts on living with the increased noise?

POST 9Original post

the turbo could definately benefit from increased exhaust noise, but unless youve money to burn there are plenty of options outthere for less than half of what that EP system costs for 4.5k you could get a miltek or tubi system, improved diverter valves with a ECU remap and +60-80BHP on K16 turbo's probably more on K24's

POST 10Original post

I suppose it would be churlish to point out that any performance gain from the exhaust would almost certainly be negated through fitting a larger wing?

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Not churlish in the slightest. Probably very sensible!

POST 12Original post

JZM do supply the Europipe... Stage 2 Loud is a great exhaust as long as you don't like doing track days... the Stage 2 Quiet is the one you want if you do. The margin's JZM are making here are huge.... the EP direct from EP in Belgium is €3600... even with the horrible exchange rate thats a considerable saving. £4.5k for this zorst is crazy money - these things were under £3k just 18mths ago when I was looking to get one. I went with the Milltek... quality exhaust that makes the power, does not resonate anything like as at a sensible price. If you're in London you're welcome to listen to mine to help you decide. Speak to Mike @ S&C and he'll sort you out, fit it properly & you won't get robbed !

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

That's really helpful. You obviously spent some time looking at the options. Europipe make a big deal of their 70mm pipes and the reduced pressure as a result. Do you think there really is much in it between them and Milltek? And which Milltek exhaust did you go for? Oh, and lastly, have you had any issues with sensors going off or anything else untoward since you fitted yours? Thanks again.

POST 14Original post

No probs. The elbows on the EP are actually more restrictive than those on the Milltek... you'd see if you look at them side by side. I have a Milltek 200... no issues with CEL lights and I don't know anyone that does, and I know a handful of turbo owners running them. The EP is 100cel but I've never heard of any CEL's with that exhaust either. Honestly, the Milltek is fantastic... its on the quieter side of exhausts.. the EP S2L is certainly louder, as is the Tubi.... but you don't want a loud exhaust on the mway, only when you want it to be... and thats where the Milltek excels. If you are up North, speak to Mike @ S&C, if you are more central or Southernly, speak to Matt @ Fearnsport for supply and fit - seriously, you won't regret the decision.

POST 15Original post

H&S Exhaust here, and is pretty damn loud. No chance of passing any noise regs on tracks, but I love it. Can't see why a different (decent) rear wing would negate the gains of an exhaust. There is always more to a story than just peak dyno figures.
