Based on how I used the car (see below), there is no reason at all for that to have changed.
Leading evidence: 'Use car (see below), there is no reason at all' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'biggest factor' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check history of an rs6' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Sadly we live in a world where crashed exotic/supercars are about as in demand as used condoms.....race cars on the other hand are different!

Suspected cause
Rarity is probably the biggest factor when it comes to 911s as they all drive ok, especially 996 GT3/RS.

So the upside for any prospective owner is no track use since a minimum of Nov-2012, the downside is that I sold the original exhaust as I needed space in my garage.

I will regret selling but I'm still getting over making a large profit on a car I've owned..
Great looking car - is the price only due to 'celebrity provenance’ and overall condition or do you think it is part of a major readjustment / realignment?
There are very few RS (996 or 997) coming up for sale at the moment and those that do tend to go within days…
I will of course declare an interest as an owner, but I’m interested in others views – has the 991 GT3 situation forced a rethink from buyers?
Prices have been on a general upward trend for some time (at least a year or more), but this would represent quite a leap for the 997.1 GT3 RS.
With the steels and no sat nav it's even more track focussed, one for a collector with the mileage.
I have to declare an interest myslef, my orange one has just gone up for sale on here and I have five viewings this weekend which I didnt expect...
I think its bonkers and yet more evidence that the market can't go on forever.
Everything is being dragged into the so called 'collectors' net. They are great cars. I'll continue to use and enjoy mine, what others do is up to them. I know I'd rather have the memories of driving them then a few % more on the eventual sticker price.
This is my NON RS....
And i'll be taking it here again in September ....
I can only afford one GT3 and I intend to drive it!
If it goes UP in value then BRILLIANT, if it goes down in value then so be it
Beautiful car and good man. I'll be doing the same in after the summer, few of us heading over to Oktoberfest. Throwing in a few tracks along the way....

Wow interesting if it sells at that. What do people think a 40k mile example with PCCB and Nav is worth at the moment?
It looks like demand is outstripping supply at the moment so who knows

Colour plays a large part, my one for sale is orange which seems second to green in the desirability stakes
Had a nosey around Jay Kay's orange 997.1 RS couple of weeks ago when he was spanking it round a track. Nice car and I'd love one, but I wouldn't pay £110k for it! I looked at buying a 997.1 RS last year at less than £70k, I can't see how this price inflation can continue. Perhaps I have missed the boat, perhaps we'll get a correction? My betting would be the latter at some point.
Cheers

I agree its stupid. I hope the arse falls out of it so I can start to think about buying again.
Maybe that's the reason it won't.
Anyway have you still got the 996 RS ?
On the basis of the number still in existence, the 996 RS has to be the car to start to really appreciate. There are probably not many more than 500 left making them rarer that the 4ltr 997, far more of which will have gone direct into collections and will therefore survive long term.

But that basis, rarity, is not the primary reason for appreciation, there are plenty of other factors too.
I agree, but the mix of rarity and the RS badge must make the 996 a good bet. There were more of just about
every other non-blown RS variant, and with the exception of the 7.1, none are cheaper.
Rarity is probably the biggest factor when it comes to 911s as they all drive ok, especially 996 GT3/RS.
Couple limited numbers with great dynamics and a Motorsport link and that's all the recipe you need for an all time great.
6RS' are still a relative bargain compared to some of the other stuff that is rocketing that doesn't drive or sound as good. Same for the 7RS'.
Whether there's a correction or not these cars will always have buyers. Last of an analogue breed, no more being made, etc, etc.
looks are subjective but they are ageing very nicely.
Still got my 6RS and not selling for now. It's my least favourite out of the 4.0 and 7.1RS but still a cool car. It's just not great on my local roads which is a shame, despite it being less useable I'm still attached to it.

The 6 has to be the best long term bet. First of the GT3 RS', last of the manual, non PASM, PSM 911. A sure fire classic in my view, but it has been slow to take off.
Apparently JZM sold a low miler for £100k without it being advertised a week or so ago.
i am also surprised at the prices being asked, but i view it as a reflection of the current limited supply. however to me the beauty of these cars (GT3's) is that they are civilised enough for road use and strong enough for track use. if the values firm too far then it kills half of their appeal in my mind. not many are going to want to nail a car worth over £100k on a track day.
having said that i view the 996 RS as a strong buy, given it was undervalued and they are very special cars. rarity matters on values and these had the shortest production run for any 911 RS derivative.

Its been a talking horse for years now though and its never really happened.
ALL GT3s are currently riding high, in a general market thats doing some crazy things.
Its a bubble thats likely to burst IMO
Like others, I also think this current market is artificially high and may not last; the trick is of course is to know when to exit – if indeed you intend to exit…
I am sure some may have jumped out of a 73 RS at circa £300-350k and yet now they can command £500k!
Tony 1234 said:
Slightly O/T but is the ride on a 7GT3RS harder than a 7GT2?
Not really. Much of a muchness. The 3 is a more "detailed" car all round. It feels more focused.

I tend to agree - but the timing of any correction could still be a while off unless there is an exogenous event of some magnitude. More likely we will see a reversal in the stock market as ZIRP is rescinded and QE scaled back - and this will flow into the more illiquid assets such as cars.
The trick in holding illiquid assets is indeed knowing when to sell - timing wise the selling of these types of assets is often at its best when prices are rising, just like they are now...

+1
I have pondered this as well. If they continue to go north of £100k, they will appeal to the purer collector/road driver segment as the trackday buyer will get scarcer at that price point. I assume the 964RS has already started to retreat from the trackday scene.
On the flip side, the base 6GT3 is great value for both road/track and is probably why none can be found(!) as owners have little credible alternative.
Wasn't it a 100k track day car when it came out? You're all prima donnas for not driving them because of their value. If you're worried about shunting it at least you know you're driving it properly! Well, as close to properly as possible at the given time....
The best 996RS out there is the one that has already been bent, those owners car enjoy their cars conscience free!

Isn't this what insurance is for? @10% excess its a 10k track car
Sadly we live in a world where crashed exotic/supercars are about as in demand as used condoms.....race cars on the other hand are different! Wash 'em out and pass on....
The reality is if you have a 996RS for example and it's been crashed, it's forever stigmatised.....

..however, I should not have sold it at all earlier last year

The 6 RS is arguably a better car than the 7.1 RS and unarguably a far rarer beast - largely because they weren't sold in USA / Canada.
The last two advertised on PH went for £75k and £79k and I know about another two selling within the last month - they went for sigificantly more than the PH advertised cars. The best cars are generally not advertised and the cars that appear in PH classifieds are the same cars again and again - often with a story. If anyone is thinking of buying a 6RS then let me know as I have info on about 40 cars - sometimes very little but occasionally quite a lot of stuff that you'd probably want to know.

Its definitely rarer, but its certainly not better in my opinion. As a road and track car the 997 series is the pinnacle in RS/GT3 form. The RS' are a bit garish for the road but they make it up for it with shorter gearing and a responsive chassis. It'll never be bettered now that we are into hybrid tech and playstation gearboxes.

Got to agree with this. 997RS is quite a bit better as a road car than a 96.
On a track, if you're really good then there's an argument to be made but as a road car, sorry, newer car better in just about every way.

gotta say one of my favourite F cars. What are they now 500-600k? Still think the 355 is the next F classic
I am guessing that the gentleman who's posted this 7.1 RS for sale at £189k saw the state of the market, walked out to his shed, took a picture on his phone and posted it to PH in the off chance that someone with the right mixture of money and stupidity comes along.
This was a tricky call for me as I have a 991RS on order. Of my two 997s the Gen 2 car is better in every way, but I simply could not part with the Gen.1. There is no logic, just sentiment. First Porsche I had owned in many years, its like an old shoe, and I will keep it permanently. Also, Gen 2 prices are going crazy on this side of the pond, so the car will be gone shortly and it will be a year before the 991 appears.

Maybe his wife insisted he got rid of that "bloody car". So he duly agreed and is now telling her that its up for sale and no one is interested in it. She is happy he is trying and he is happy as he gets to keep his car. Either that or the vendor is delusional.

About 15k from memory and more differences between the 997.1 cars than the 996 cars eg wider body on the 997 RS.

I agree.
Though its got a different , wider body, a single mass flywheel and a slightly different wheelbase and rear track, carbon fibre rear wing, different splitter, steering wheel and a lexan rear screen.
Oh and stickers.
I don't know if all that adds up to about 0.1% ...........................

All good fun Andrew.
I went through the evaluation between the GT3 and the GT3RS before ordering the car. I have driven both extensively.
In my view, there is no discernible difference in performance between them if you are less of a driver than Walter Rohrl. I am nothing more than a run-of-the-mill track day hobbyist
I bought the car because of aesthetics and rarity to be perfectly honest.
In the case of the gen 2 car there is a very significant difference in the aerodynamics and you can feel it.
Flat out on the autobahn the Gen 1 gets scarily light in the front, while the Gen.2 sticks like glue.
In any case, its appearance, appearance. I wanted a viper green car. Yep, shallow, I know.

That car would have been 65k or less a year ago. Question is, is it going to continue to appreciate and how do buyers feel about the substantial amount of mods that car has. No chance it would ever be warrantied again by Porsche
Personally, I like a lot of the things the owners's done to it but its always splits opinion
Its almost an eight year old car, Porsche warranty...... The mods are all pretty sensible. Most Gt3 diffs would be toast anyway, brakes will always need replacing, the GT2 rear arb was upgraded by Porsche themselves later on, front grills stop your rads getting stoned, an exhaust tweak on a Gt3 can be sublime.
I'd ditch the air filter and steering wheel, make sure all the original parts came with the car and it has had lots of regular oil changes and offer £75k.
And I would agree with you entirely.
The Alpine is a big step up too , with a decent speaker upgrade and amp
Grills good, brakes not somuch. Unless its a track warrior ceramics are better
The diff is a tricky call. Would argue that diffs are fine well beyond 26k miles unless its been totally ragged
[I appreciate its a bit late but I posted this in the 996 GT3 FS thread in response to someone asking if the car had a chequered history so I thought I'd drop it in here also for the record as it also answers a few questions raised above related to how the car has been used]
"Hi all
As you can see, whilst I enjoy reading the forums, I do not actively post. However, I spotted this and thought I'd jump in as the above mentioned car was previously mine. Sorry it’s a bit late and the chat has moved one, but in case it helps someone.
I don't have anything to gain from this as the dealer purchased the car outright from me. However, I still feel a strong attachment to the car and so would like to see it represented correctly. Price, colour preferences etc are up to the individual to decide upon and so I won't comment on that.
Firstly, the car certainly does not have a chequered history. I was the second owner, and acquired it from JZM in November 2012 on 22k miles. The one previous owner had owned it since new. I purchased it with the usual JZM assurances and it came with their 1 year warranty. The rev band test showed a few sparks in rev band one and nothing more. Based on how I used the car (see below), there is no reason at all for that to have changed. It was confirmed to me by JZM at the time of purchase that the car had not suffered any prior accident damage and it remains that way today. Steve (at JZM) apparently also knew the prior owner. There is a huge history file with the car – literally every invoice saved since new and I kept that up – I file all paperwork for all cars I own. Reason for not selling or part exchanging it back to JZM was simply because I traded it for a Challenge Stradale and they don’t sell those….
I was the one who added 1) the steering wheel, 2) satnav, 3) Europipe exhaust and 4) wheel painting. Aside from the satnav, all were done by JZM at the time I purchased the car. The other mods were undertaken by the prior owner and I personally think are great additions – the receipts for those are well in excess of 20k. Whilst I am sure some of the purists might not agree with the small bits I did, at the end of the day it was my car and that was how I wanted it. Equally they are all easily reversible. My reasons were as follows: 1) I just love that race car feel and having the wheel much closer to me - this wheel is a genuine Porsche Cup wheel, but its smaller and owing to the boss kit protrudes more - the original wheel is supplied with the car and is in as new condition 2) the old satnav was just that - old. I like my satnav to be up to date with easy to follow graphics and menu systems - the original system is also supplied with the car 3) I love the sound of it – absolutely incredible 4) the original owner had elected to have silver wheels which I did not like, yet I find the full orange wheels too garish. The only other thing I had done (again by JZM ahead of my taking first delivery) was to have the bonnet and top of the front arches blown over for stone chips.
On the mods, the prior owner clearly set the car up for some track use but having had the car inspected and after listening to JZM who have known it for many years (plus the rev band testing) I was happy it had not been excessively tracked (the original discs were changed for the Alcons by JZM as part of my purchase deal – they had lasted 22k miles). During my ownership it was not tracked once and I actually had the geometry softened (by JZM) for better road use. I appreciate some people are (often rightly) sceptical regarding such statements, but in this case it really is true. I actually did try to track it on one occasion, but with the Europipe exhaust I came in at 113db on the static test at Bedford Autodrome (Aug 2012) and that was the end of that. The pads and tyres were new when I got the car and are the same ones as on it now with plenty of wear left on both.
So the upside for any prospective owner is no track use since a minimum of Nov-2012, the downside is that I sold the original exhaust as I needed space in my garage. Sorry. Of the 4,500 miles I put on the car, I can advise that probably half of that was me going from Chiswick (West London) to Slough every other Sunday or so in order to get to my wife's warehouse for her stock delivery / count (she’s a clothing retailer). I travel to work each day by tube and so this was my main opportunity to drive it – although being mostly motorway it’s not the most fun way of clocking up miles. Other than that, I did a roundtrip to Penzance (Cornwall) – A30 all the way : ), where it was dry stored for the winter – its c. 750 miles if you include the 100 or so I did down there. The rest of the mileage was me posing around West London.
Other than that, all I can say is it was a very much loved car (I would clean it every couple of weeks and also had it detailed a couple of times) and if I could have kept it and the new one I would have, no question.
Should anyone want to know more about the car, I would be happy to answer questions privately – you can send me a message or if you need to I can send you my number and would be happy to talk you through it more.
Best
Peter"

Ah yes apologies. My old car is the black / orange one for sale with Amari
Im getting old I forget :-0 good luck with the sale very lovely cars
A highly reputable specialist, 911V have a similar car with lower mileage for £10k less advertised. It also does not have the (to many it seems, scary words) GC anywhere near the history. To that end, the black car is unlikely to sell before the 911V car.

Nah, you just sold too soon. Porsche green cars are now worth at least £150K !!

its obviously easy to take the front cage out but if you do so, what permanent signs remain? Is it just the hole in the carpet?
Believe so. The cage attaches itself to the main structure and then runs inside the door frame down into the driver footwell. So the hole in the main frame/cage gets blocked up and then you're left with the floor cavity, you can fill that too with a plastic cap and then the carpet. I've done it before. The front cage is a total pain in the arse.

Ha. Be interesting to see how long this takes to sell ..being it not Green or Orange ! Madness.
Still not sold a couple of months on, and yet the price seems to have jumped to £100k. Maybe it was just too cheap to sell at the old price?
Yes, that made me laugh also! I'd buy it now, but would rather wait until December, when, hopefully, I will be able to buy it when it is worth more .... £150k maybe?
The same with a 512 Tr at another dealer. Been for sale for over a year. 100k, 115k and now 150k; surely if they just put it up again?
People are getting really greedy and unrealistic now

Conversation in sellers house.
Wife: Dave? Dave? You sold that bloody car yet?
Husband: Not yet dear. I keep advertising it but no one is interested.
Of course it could be some chancer.

Jay Kays car sold….Maxted. Anyone know what for ? Was up for 110k ?
Compared to the other 997.1 RS available at the moment that Jay k car looked a good deal, nice colour and immaculate .
Still a load of money though.

depends on your definition of immaculate.. had the car inspected and left it alone, certainly at that price.. bought the 911V car at 90k instead..
Someone sent me this recent pic of mine…don't really care what its worth. Will just hang onto it permanently and it will be a great contrast to the 991RS when it shows up….

The French LHD green 997.1 RS at MCP has gone up £20k if my eyes don't deceive me in the last couple if days.
Has this type of thing happened in the past, I can't recall it. Car doesn't sell
at £99k so let's put it up £20k without no work being carried out on it, just makes no sense to me. Am I missing something?

Yep, exactly the same with the black GT3RS at Amari. They couldn't sell it for months while advertised at £87995 so they put the price up overnight to £99995!

Who buys this stuff at those ridiculous prices
people with more money than you and I who want that car today I guess.
a lot of people earn £50k a week, so they don't care.
I emailed him to ask if he has had any interest at even close to this level. Explained that I'm also an owner of a Viper Green RS, nothing back. I didn't take that as a good sign.

I spoke to him when he first advertised the car as I mistook it for a Gen 2. Seemed a genuine guy.
