Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

that's 8 years way overdue for a RMS and IMS replacement unless the IMS Solution was installed on this car.
Leading evidence: 'Install on this car' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Install on this car' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I cant determine from invoice what parts they used aka new style RMS or old.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Currently shopping for a 996. Found a lovely one whose only flaw appears to be a Minor RMS leak. Doesnt drip but cross support is wet. RMS and IMS and clutch et al replaced at less than 20,000 ago by a reputable shop in 2012
Is there any chance its more likely to be something else?
I cant determine from invoice what parts they used aka new style RMS or old. Date was 2012 of service
Whats the likelihood of another failure? Some posters have talked about unmachineable engine shoulders making it impossible to ever solve?
Perhaps result of only being driven every few weeks or not driven for 4 months of winter?
Cost to repair RMS alone?
Thanks for all the help guys!
Could be RMS, IMS flange... you can tell without removing the transmission. It's also possible to remove the the CPS and snake a borescope into the bell housing to take a look at these without removing the transmission, but there's no guarantee you'll be able to see exactly what's going on. It still may be worth a try though - and a good deal less expensive...
First of all, how do you know it's the RMS leaking?
Second, we're talking 2012... that's 8 years way overdue for a RMS and IMS replacement unless the IMS Solution was installed on this car.
Lastly, you ask, "What is the likelihood of another failure?"
Answer = Likely
@dporto
I don't mean to thread hijack, but is this true? Through the cps hole with a borescope? First time I've heard this suggested. If it works, that's awesome.
I think it's been mentioned before, but now that I think about it, the flywheel may be in the way... Hmmmm...
Honestly, I'm not sure but maybe Bill will check it out and let us know...
Ball bearings are wear items....but, I guess what you are saying is that it is not dependent upon how long the item has been installed, but how many hours it has run?
Once the CPS is removed, wouldn't you just see the teeth of the flywheel? Seems like there would be little or no room to noodle around it with a borescope.
