Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

After driving a while I get a gas smell in the cabin. I removed the battery and the battery tray and noticed the top of the sending unit is wet and does smell like gas. What's a best next step on this one? Many thanks!!

POST 2Original post

Do you not have an engine code for an evap leak? It could be the sending unit or a connector.

POST 3Original post

It seems that you will need to buy a new fuel pump..

POST 4Original post

Agree that your fuel sender unit is likely failing. The plastic is very discolored so you likely have a crack somewhere.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks everyone! When I went to clean it I noticed that I was able to turn the black ring an entire 360 degrees before I couldn't tighten it by hand anymore. I highly doubt it's that simple, but would be nice if it is!

POST 6Original post

Go a step further and use correct specification together with a new seal. Special tool 3217 required or similar. Tightening torque with new union nut and new sealing ring 70 Nm. If it was loose I gess it was the culprit. For my understanding, in this case (e.g. crack) would you not only replace part no. 5 or is the recommendation in this case to replace the whole unit?
