Took it back today and they took of the old tint and replaced with new.

I've used Stoner's Invisible Glass for years with no problems, and it's never lifted the tint film.

Can you recommend a window tinter in the SF bay area?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I can find only one thread on tinting
Whats the consensus? Tint or Not? I hate the plain glass ... everything in sight. Just used to tinted windows ...
It does get hot sun here in the Summer.
There are several threads on tinting - search for tint. One has 50+ posts. I'm in the minority by being against it. I don't like the reduced vision both forme as a driver or for not being able to see the driver in the other car if it has dark tint. Seeing another driver being inattentive and avoding he or she is a must and with some tints you cannot see them at all.
By the way I'm curious as to why you started a new topic if you found one of the other ones on the same subject?

HI, Oh because the last post was feb ... seven months ago and a lot more people probably have bought cars since february. I guess I could have added a post to that thread but bringing up seven month old posts (in least in other forums I have been) usually doens't result in any responses because its old news.
Thats the only reason why. Every forums protocols are usually a little different and since I just bought the car and will ask more questions, just learning whats proper here

I have mine tinted......nothing really dark, just a medium tint all the way around. I think it makes the car look a little better on the whole, I really wish the factory would offer a darker glass......with all the options Porsche can think up, I can't see why a slightly darker glass can't be one of them.
Public Service Announcement, avoid A1 Dr. Tint in SoCal (Carson). Their work is 2nd rate and I learned that the hard way. Owner is a complete jerk and spend 10 minutes trying to persuade me 6-10 bumps or trapped dirt is acceptable.
I finally got the Croc tinted. There is the little dot issue but the installer said to just wait 3 days and then press it down or just come back and he would take care of it. 35% all around. In the pic, it has been raining and I think its a bit lighter than shown in that standing near the window, you can see the mirror on the opposite side
Clear markers also added. That was a no-brainer! (thanks for that advice).
That looks great! 35% looks like the perfect balance for the croc! Thanks for posting as I was waiting to see what 35-40% would look like on the car. I will have mine done at 35% now!!
How much did it cost if you don't mind me asking?
I have my side windows tinted to 35% and the rear to 21%. The car's interior stays significantly cooler when parked in direct sunlight.
Be aware that if you're in California, any tint on the front side windows or windshield (save for a 4" strip across the top) that isn't manufacturer-installed is illegal, so install at your own risk. I have yet to be stopped and/or ticketed in the last 4 years of having illegal tint on my cars. Just in case, I do carry my medical license to cite 'medical necessity' if I ever get stopped.
just stopped by Sun Tint today and they have a new oxide tint that's amazing. You can get clear or dark but the heat reduction is amazing (even with the clear). Plan to have it done on my Cayman. If you're worried about legal issues, the clear tint shouldn't be a problem because you can't tell it's there! Sun Tint is local but I'm sure their product is national, they just got it in.

Just got my CS tinted with the German-made Huper Optik ceramic film at 40% transmission. Looks really nice, not too dark, and should reduce UV nearly completely and heat gain quite a bit with Hawaii's really intense sun. Wasn't cheap though...
Had my rear window tinted with Madico ceramic tinting with 51% light transmission. My objective was to get just a bit softer look with full UV protection and decent IR heat rejection. I was told that the Madico ceramic is thinner and more optically clear than Huber Optik.
I'm very happy with the look and results.

Tint it, I live in the south where the rear window helps to turn a car into a solar oven. With the tint you will drastically lower the temp levels in your car. Besides it looks better.
Just a heads up on tinting.
The tint on my drivers side window start to come off in the corner, down low near the dash. I thought maybe it was because of the constant up and down of the window everytime you lock/unlock the car and the sudden cold temps (lows in the teens).
Took it back today and they took of the old tint and replaced with new. The owner said no, it wasn't the movement of the window or cold, just there didn't seem to be enough glue applied in all places
Sound like poor original workmanship to me but they replaced it free so I can't complain ... only took a short time.
TINTING RECOMMENDATIONS near Santa Monica or Hollywood
If anyone can recommmend a place near santa monica or Hollywood to get my new 07 Cayman tinted. The exterior color is Atlas Gray. Any recommendation on how dark would be appreciated as well.
Thanks in advance....
I believe Tracy went to Premier in Fremont. I had my clear bra and tint done there and so far, I'm very happy with the results. I chose to go with a 44% metallic tint. I go back for a "check up" in a couple of weeks. Ask for Sam and tell him Gary referred you.

Got an appointment for tomorrow...dude is tinting the car at my house -- no drive. Going with 30 on the sides and 15 on the rear. With the Atlas, it should be stunning.
Dumb question
As long as we're talking tinting. As I understand it, they put a film on the glass on the inside. What about cleaning. do you have to use special cleaning solution. Extra careful so you don't tear the film. Etc.
I just don't know anything about tinting so wonder what's done and what the experience over time is.
You don't need anything special to clean the inside. I've used Stoner's Invisible Glass for years with no problems, and it's never lifted the tint film.
Besides, most tint places will warranty their work for 5+ years or even lifetime, so if it ever peels or bubbles they'll replace it for free.
No tint for me. Like CA, illegal here in NJ (unless OEM). Unlilkely to get stopped for it, but if you do get stopped for other reasons, Troopers won't care too much about a 'medical' excuse, even if it was valid.
You'd still get the ticket and have to go to Municipal Court. An attorney should be able to convince the prosecutor to drop the charge to something else, but a pro se defendant would probably have a tougher go at it. Which is a good thing - how do you think I make my car payments?
And if you avoid the whole police stop, you'll never never get through inspection, at least not at a state-run facility.
I actually like all the glass, but it's not so hot here.
