Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. The new cup holder assembly aligns perfectly and I'm happy that I had it changed (they provided to me the assembly, I swapped it).

I had this problem (although my misalignment was only 1.5 or 2 mm and not 3/4" as reported) and my dealer replaced my entire cup holder assembly as a unit under warranty.

Sorry to say but the misalignment returned within 30 days after the dealer replaced my original cup-holder assembly.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

anyone else notice after awhile their cup holder trip piece not match up with the rest of the trim? its almost like a heavy drink made the cupholder assembly sag. there is now about a 3/4" gap above the top of the trim.
Hello Santa Fe,
I could be wrong, but I believe the original post is referring to how poorly the central piece of the three piece cup holder cover trim aligns with the neighboring trim. I had this problem (although my misalignment was only 1.5 or 2 mm and not 3/4" as reported) and my dealer replaced my entire cup holder assembly as a unit under warranty.
The new cup holder assembly aligns perfectly and I'm happy that I had it changed (they provided to me the assembly, I swapped it). By the way, I disassembled the original cup holder mechanism to see if there was an internal adjustment however there wasn't. One more thing, your dealer may allow you to keep the external silver trim pieces (three pieces) for you to keep as spares in the event that yours ever get scratched!
Regards,
Joe
The FAQ you refer to is to prevent lateral movement of the cupholder arm; however the problem SPrincess indicates is the weakness of the ratcheting grip mechanism, which is not addressed in the FAQ- at least that is my read.
I am on my second cupholder mechanism and this one has developed the gap that is discussed above. I had asked my dealer to take care of it along with a myriad of other things, but it was missed. I'll have it taken care of
next
time.
hahaha and I thought it was just mine!!! Good to know that I'm not the only one. So how do we fix it? A Cup-o-suction? I guess I'll be visiting my local dealer and getting the trim swap.
Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I just noticed this problem on my new (to me) CS. To those who have had their cupholder assemblies replaced, has the problem re-occurred at all?
Cupholders... oh don't start me off on that topic!!
The damn things should be a cost option.
The money they spent JUST on designing the things could have been used to give us all free limited slip diffs.
You're driving and you're thirsty?
Stop and have a drink... you've been driving too long!
OK...rant over.... carry on.
Hello diabolus,
Sorry to say but the misalignment returned within 30 days after the dealer replaced my original cup-holder assembly. It is a situation where a few hundredths of an inch of misalignment/wear of the internal mechanism telegraphs out to a few millimeters. I sure wish there were a fine adjustment engineered into the internal mechanism.
Regards,
Joe
The manual says to keep the cup holder closed while driving.
IMO, that implies that it isn't really supposed to be used. It's kind of like orange side marker lights. The US law requires it's presence ...
