In any case what they suggest is LOWERING the oil fill by half a quart and switching to a higher viscosity synthetic I think I use 15-50.They also have a new dip stick (that shows the crankcase as being full with a 1/2 quart lower fill) and a software update for the dashboard oil measurement display.

Hey!I am no expert on this BUT I have spent a lot of time on the track in my 2002 c-2 996.When I first started using my car on the trck it had 6000 mi.on it and it smoked (white smoke)exactly as yours does.It also did the same after a High G turn on the next throttle application.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

This weekend, I did my first DE with the C4S...at Lime Rock. I was disturbed to see that when starting the car up after the car had sat for an hour or so immediately after the previous track session, quite a lot of smoke emanated from the exhaust. I was kicking up a cloud without moving... After driving/revving for a bit, the smoking would stop, but it was enough to cause me some concern. Is there something to this? Do 996's do this after hard use or do I have a problem? Thanks in advance. P.S. Once I got used to the rear-weight bias (although relatively less in a 996 C4S), I was pretty nasty in this thing...

POST 2Original post

search the archives when you get a chance. It's been discussed before. From what I recall this isn't entirely abnormal. -KJ

Hey!I am no expert on this BUT I have spent a lot of time on the track in my 2002 c-2 996.When I first started using my car on the trck it had 6000 mi.on it and it smoked (white smoke)exactly as yours does.It also did the same after a High G turn on the next throttle application. There is a Technical Service Bulletin regarding this issue.I can't find the number but it references smoke and high "G" turns.I'm sure your dealer can find it. My car now has 35000 MI. AND extensive track use and it runs fine and strong and every once and a while I get a small cloud of smoke on start up at the track.
