Mechanical failure.
Is it me or is the build quality of the
cayman
not exactly what you have expected? After issues with AC, Transmission, and interior noise / rattles. Today, I pulled up to the carwash, after 1 month of idle time, to find coolant all over the pavement as my car was taken away to be washed.
Previous issues have all been resolved, and I am the first to say that is why we have 4yrs from
Porsche
. They roadside and dealer did the right thing by me, and I have no service related complaint. However, it seems to me that issues like this should be shaken out of a vehicle when you hit 10k miles and pay the premium to own it.
I have started to think seriously about the
Cayman
as a long term guest in my garage rather then a car I love to own. It spends quite a bit of time away from home. Frustrating when I don't get that much time to drive it anyway. Anyone else having second thoughts?
Wishing I had a 2yr lease.
Matt
That is quite sad to hear. I have had no problems whatsoever I drove out the showroom and went back a year later for the first service. I think you have to remember that any operation where humans are involved there will be failures.
Maybe they put yours together the day after the Christmas party. Whatever the reason my point is that you are always gonna get some badly built
Porsche
's (very few I'm sure) just as you get ones that are a bit faster or slightly better than the rest.
If I was you I would seriously consider selling it and buying a similar one, you might lose some bucks but it may just be worth it to avoid future costs.
+1 to the above. No problems here either. I hope you reconsider.
At about 10000 miles I had a horn go out, otherwise not one thing.
Ok, I had my clutch let go early on (in the '07 group) and it, throw-out bearing, master slave (including resurfacing the pressure plate) were replaced under warranty. Other than that, nothing, nada! The TPS is annoying sometimes as it will reset with temperature changes if the car has been sitting a day or two. But, I've had no rattles in 13k miles, including a number of autoxs and DEs. The tires are about shot though owing to my driving.
What is it with these cars. I had mine all of 18 months and the darn seal around the rear hatch brake light came loose.
20 months of ownership and the stereo went bad. it was replaced under warranty and works fine now. other than that, no problems (except for people (some of them i don't even know) asking me for a ride).
Sorry, I think you got a bad one. Perhaps you could check with
Porsche
for others built on the same day with similar problems. I think the VIN number will tell you when it was manufactured. This will take some time and research, may be a interesting chore!
The only issue I have at 10k miles and 15 months is the d!@# trunk clunk and the fr#$%^& quarter window rattle.
Thanks everyone for posting and keeping me sane this week. I had to leave town with the car at the dealer, and that drove me nuts not to have this resolved.
As it turns out it was a radiator issue, and that was enough for me. As of tonight I am the owner of a new 08 CS in Meteor Grey with the premium plus package, and sport chrono.
The choice was easy since the dealer understood the situation and wanted to make it better. The final deal worked out with a 16% discount, below the vehicle invoice cost, and they took my 07
Cayman
back from me at a fair trade in value.
If you compute the costs to me, I lost money. However, I got to drive a nice car for two years at a fair rate. Now, I hope to enjoy the upgrade in to the CS. While it won't be a brand new 09, its an affordable 08.
Matt
Congrats on the upgrade.....
