Suggestion

I don't know, I really wish I could find a way to repair the TEMP and Fan icon because those are going to continue to degrade but that is a very small area.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

After reading many complaints of peeling paint from A/C controls: http://www.planet-9.com/987-cayman-boxster-problems-complaints/58518-how-can-i-get-porsche-cover-my-peeling-interior.html http://www.planet-9.com/987-cayman-boxster-chat/35050-can-soft-rubber-knobs-protected.html http://www.planet-9.com/987-cayman-boxster-problems-complaints/59995-c-knobs-peeling-anyone-have.html I decide to post my $1 solution before: after: hardest part was finding the right color paint because the controls are not black . I found that out the hard way by putting some black paint on the underside of the fan switch on the right side that you can see in the photos is very dark compared to the switch. After much searching I found the switches are a perfect match for FolkArt Acrylic Paint color Licorice 938 for less than $1 from Walmart using a fine tip artist brush I gently painted the switches and this is the result: a little globby in areas but no one will notice unless you point it out to them, the photos don't really do it justice, the color match is 100% perfect 2 ounce bottle is enough to do hundreds of porsches, I used less than a drop to paint the controls I don't know how long the paint will last on there but at this price I wouldn't mind touching them up again in a few months if it does flake off.

POST 2Original post

Interesting, I had removed all of the black from the switches so they now sit white, I wonder how difficult it'd be to paint it with some sort of a brush if I just taped off around the switches with this stuff you've found.

POST 3Original post

I don't know, I really wish I could find a way to repair the TEMP and Fan icon because those are going to continue to degrade but that is a very small area. Maybe if I removed the HVAC controls I could bring it inside and paint them under a magnifying glass.... oh the things we do for our Porsches

POST 4Original post

I'm telling you guys, if we had a 3D printer, we could crank these things out all day long. I'm really trying to figure out whether this would be a profitable, or even break even enterprise.

POST 6Original post

I looked into a 3d printer. I am not in the place right now to "invest" in one. Sticky no more charges $65 for them to be fixed, so you would have to come in near there for it to work.

POST 7Original post

Here's my plastidip repair. I masked off the stock icons - even though worn. Maybe it will hold up. If not, I will repaint it again. BTW - there's no need for 3 flathead prying tools or 4 hands or a helper to remove the switches. You just need one hand to hold slight pressure down on the switch to keep the switch from popping back into locked position. Then you can pry 2 of the 4 swivel channel tabs at a time.

POST 8Original post

Looks good! Maybe the best option is to use plastidip and after use the climarepair.com kit so you keep the TEMP and the fan logo? I may try that

POST 9Original post

Thanks for the tip. I bought the paint on Amazon . You are right... perfect match. My switches were pretty worn, so I decided to mask a few small up and down triangles on them and I think they turned out great. I might even go to all black, but for now, I like having the small triangles (saw someone else do that in another thread). We'll see how long the paint holds up...

POST 11Original post

I removed all of the black soft touch gunk with rubbing alcohol. I used a small paintbrush with the switches still installed. I had some touchup paint of Atlas Grey (a little bluish) but it looks fine and had a hard, durable finish. I don't have the lettering anymore, but the position indicates what each side is for.

POST 12Original post

So far so good. Been fixed for a couple weeks now and holding up well. I'm glad I added the triangles as it makes the switch easier to see at night. I also do not touch the tabs on the switches, but only the areas above and below the tabs. I think this will help the switches stay nice longer.

POST 13Original post

Had this problem with my radio knobs. Pulled them off and sent to a company called "Sticky No More" and they redid them for me for about $25. Had them back in 4-5 days I think. They are better then new. Removing the AC controls would be harder of course. No affiliation but a satisfied customer.
