This is not a probability of success.

Assuming that you find a good used engine, is not too difficult to replace it, as long as you take your time to disconnect everything, BTW having a buddy to help = priceless :-)

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My 2001 boxster S seized on cylinder 5. What is the best solution to fix it ? a short block at Porsche is 14000$. Any idea ?

POST 2Original post

Realistically -- swap in a used engine. Probably $5k for the engine and $2-3K for the install. (just swagging)

POST 3Original post

Easy: Spend lots of $ or go the used engine route..............

POST 4Original post

Do you have the skills to rebuild an engine, or to remove and install one. I am currently installing a used 3.2 in my 2000 S. Where are you in Montreal? There is a place In St-Hubert that may have an engine.

Assuming that you find a good used engine, is not too difficult to replace it, as long as you take your time to disconnect everything, BTW having a buddy to help = priceless :-) If you lower the engine and transmission together switch engines and raise them in place at the same time. much easier than removing the engine and leaving the gearbox in place. you can do this with an engine hoist (cherry picker..) that you can buy from Harbor Freight. Good luck
