Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Discussions that report an unsuccessful attempt
1

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.

0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.

Unsuccessful attempt

Swapped battery over for a fully charged one from another vehicle and the problem persists.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Outcome without a verified action link

When under load (lights/heated seats/fan setting etc) it reads 13.6v.There is no change to the voltmeter reading at the point that the warning light illuminates.

No unique explicit quoted action; no causal link assigned

POST 1Original post

Warning light came on when driving, suggesting a problem with either the battery or alternator. Warning light disappears when the engine is switched off. When restarted, there is initially no warning light, but within a minute or two it comes on again Swapped battery over for a fully charged one from another vehicle and the problem persists. Voltmeter on the battery reads 12.6volts when the engine is off. With the engine running at tickover and the car stationary, it reads 13.95v. When under load (lights/heated seats/fan setting etc) it reads 13.6v.There is no change to the voltmeter reading at the point that the warning light illuminates. When driving, it fluctuates between 13.6v under load, to a maximum of 14.04v. That suggests to me that the voltage regulator is OK, and the alternator windings are OK. My multimeter doesn't seem to like measuring AC volts when connected to batteries, so I can't be sure about the diodes Any suggestions what else it could be? Thanks in advance Mark

Anyone near Sevenoaks, Kent in the UK got a diagnostic reader? The cheapo one I tried returned no faults, so I suspect it was too cheap....
