Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys Just joined the forum after putting a deposit on an 05 plate 996 4CS Cabriolet tiptronic with 42k on the clock. So thought I'd introduce myself and ask a question you've probably heard a thousand times. My car has the standard exhaust, but I would like to order the sports twin tips before I pick it up. Which non standard ones are the best quality, the originals are way expensive. I also have a bit of a dilemma, I fully intended to keep my other cars, but I'm taking my pension early next year and decided to treat myself earlier. So should I keep my 2005 R32 DSG or my 2006 plate S2000 as my other car. I fully expected to keep the S2000, but if I have a cabriolet do I need another one, especially in the winter. My other halves pushing me to sell the R32, but there's something about the S2K that I love. That aside I'm really excited about picking the car up on Saturday and the 170 mile drive home. Simon

POST 3Original post

Hello and welcome! What an interesting dilemma... Personally I'd keep the s2000. The 911 is 4wd and is tiptronic. The S2000 is characterised by that amazing engine and the slick manual gearbox. I think it complements the 911 better. If you miss the flappy paddles of the R32 you can get a conversion for the 911 steering wheel. If you miss the solid roof you can get a hard top for either the 911 or the S2000...

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

R32 or S2000 Hi guys Yes it is a strange one, the only thing pushing me to keep the Golf is the winter driving. But the drive and fantastic gearbox of the S2k keeps me thinking. I think I'll wait to pick up the 911 on Saturday and make a decision after the weekend. I wish I could keep them all 😩 But I'm so looking forward to getting back in a Porsche again after 12 years. Thanks for your replies Somon

I've sold my 996 and just bought a S2000. I put a post on here (this is the only bit of the forum I ever use) but it's been moved to: http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=134682&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=

:welcome: to 911uk Simon I think by your choice of username you've already made the decision in your own mind.

POST 7Original post

Welcome... Enjoy the new 4S! Would you not miss the practicality of the Golf?

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for your replies guys. Grifter, I hope you enjoy the S2000, they are a marmite car and yes your post was spot on. All the things to look out for, I should know I've had six in total. The lack of torque puts most people off, but when you keep it above 6500 rpm, it becomes a beast and the gearbox is a gem. I will probably let it go and then buy another one next year (haha ). I've just spent £3000 getting my R32 to where I want it, only last week I had the engine and dsg remapped at Stealth Racing. So with everything now done on the car I really need to keep it for the winter. Is there anything apart from the exhaust to make the C4S slightly more powerful or economical? Simon

POST 9Original post

I traded my S2000 for a 997.1 C2S and still miss a number of things about it including the wicked induction roar. The balance of the S2000 is tremendous and for me it was much easier to just get in and drive it than the 911 as it was never my 'dream car". It's also much rarer than the 911. If I had to downsize I'd be straight back in a S2000. Also winter is the best time to have a convertible! Nothing quite like a crisp cold morning run.

POST 10Original post

Savings through extra fuel economy if indeed possible will be a drop in the ocean vs general running costs of a 996 4S... things like brakes, suspension components are basically consumables and add up... 9Excellence will give you good advice re options and possible gains from tuning a NA M96 engine. In my humble opinion, the 4S Cabrio is best enjoyed as it came from the factory, top down, listening to that engine, rather than eeking out performance gains which I imagine will be expensive for what you'd feel in a tiptronic 4Wd widebody cabrio... I find my 4S in standard tune has more than enough power for UK road driving. :drive:

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks guys I've decided to keep my S2000 and sell the R32. Whoever gets it will be very lucky, I spent 6 months trying to find it. Then spent over £3000 getting it as close to immaculate as I could. The trouble is I've had 4 previous Porsche's over a 16 year period, but I always go back to a S2k when I sell the Porsche. But even though I had to scratch the Golf itch I just don't get the same feeling I do in the Porsche and Honda. What really made my mind up was the drive here to the pub today. It's a lovely evening in Plymouth and after taking it out of the garage I was hooked again. Before you say anything my other half is with me and doesn't drink, so happy days. The private plates just come off the S2k and will go on the Porsche and the Honda will have the one off the VW. Sorted 🤗🤗🤗, thanks guys. I must say the people on this forum are very friendly, unfortunately I haven't found the same on other manufactures forums. 😩

POST 12Original post

Back to the Thread Topic! C4S tips are not compatible with other - C2/C4 cars, nor Turbos. So effectively all the £35 to £100 E-Bay one's will not fit, without substantial "persuasion" and fabrication. I had PSE with twin "figure of 8" Tips. When I replaced the rear boxes (due to wear and tear) one of the tail pipes was damaged so I went for Top Gear ones. You may need to get an exhaust centre to fabricate a small tube to get the fitting exact. But TG seem to be the way to go. Do you have PSE? If not, when you rear boxes are done, do look at the TG switchable ones, they are great. A little louder than stock in "off", and like entering the gates of hell when "on". Paul

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the info Paul. No, my car doesn't have a PSE, but my main priority was to finish off the exhaust tips. I love the dual pipe look over the single one. Has anyone on here tried the Miltek non switchable exhaust? I recently put one on my Golf and the build quality and sound was superb. If you have, was the sound better, louder or similar?? Simon
