Got my CS over the weekend and couldn't be happier.. the care is absolutely perfect. Except.... When getting out the window drops as it should but doesn't return all the way up (remains 1/4" or so down) I've searched the threads and seems it's not unusual but haven't found the solution.
The micro switch seems to work as it lowers it when you pull the handle and the courtesy light comes on.. have tried a few of the suggestions regarding indexing but there doesn't seem to be a consistent method of doing this and so far no luck.. any thoughts?
Reads like the window regulator is going bad.
I do not think it will help but you can reset the window limits. While this is done after disconnecting the battery IIRC the battery doesn't have to be disconnected before doing this.
Using the lower button lower the window all the way down. Release the button. Then using the raise button raise the window all the way up but once up do not release the button right away. Continue to hold it down for 5 seconds. The release the button. Done.
Now it may be my imagination but the times I've done this in my 02 Boxster I believe I have heard a faint "click" coming from the door after the window has reached the top of its travel and while I'm holding the button down at what I estimate to be the end of the 5 second wait.
Regardless be sure to hold the button for 5 seconds (at least).
not sure i understand.. the window goes all the way up no problem using the button.. but when you open the door it drops as it is supposed to but then never attempts to go back up... what function does the regulator play in this?? passenger side does the same most of the time..
Apparently I didn't understand the symptoms.
When you pull on the door handle (inside or outside) the window should drop. This is a function of the door handle and a switch.
If you release the handle without opening the door the window should go up. That the window goes up is a function of a switch not only in the handle but in the door latch too.
If you go ahead and open the door the window should stay down even though of course you release the handle. That the window stays down is a function of a switch in the door latch.
When you close the door and the door latch catches this trips a switch that causes the window to go up.
Now if the window operates as I covered above but doesn't move as fast, or as much as it should, makes noises, has otherwise abnormal behavior when moving this is a sign the regulator is at fault. The regulator is the system that is responsible for moving the window up and down.
In the case of my Boxster the driver's side window would drop but feebly when I opened the door. it would raise feebly when closed. The tech took out the regulator and replaced it. He said the thing was worn out and came apart as he went to remove it. I looked it over some and it looked worn out. (After nearly 250K miles I think it was to be expected...)
After the window moves as it should and as a side benefit the window no longer leaks when I wash the car. The window glass fits/seals better against the rubber sealing strip at the top.
In another case the window would drop when I pulled the door handle but go up again after the door was open and I released the door handle. This was a bad door latch.
In yet another case the other window did this but the door locks would lock on their own, the horn would sometimes sound when I locked the car. This proved to be the door lock (not latch) assembly.
My driver side window upon opening the door, drops the window slightly. Intermittently it does not automatically return up when closing the door. If I use the main window control the auto function returns and acts normal. Regular opening and closing is working fine. The regulator feels strong and there is no binding.
Bad/ dirty switch, confused control module? Any ideas?
Does the interior handle return tight to the door? i have the same problem and understand that there is a part of the handle that needs to be replaced. You can try lightly pushing the handle against the door to see if the window goes up.
Thank you for the reply. I am pretty sure the handle returns but I will check. Thanks for that! It is weird being intermittent. But I am guessing it is the micro switch. If I find out the issue I will post it. My indy mech said just wait till it does it all the time.
