The cars that seem to have had issues are MY06 and I see in the parts system the roof liner part numbers have changed over the years.

Tach Miami definitely get it replaced with the suede you will not regret it.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

He said he couldn’t reuse or match the original fabric but it is still not a bad price considering an old post from 2006 that says the
I always see GM and Ford relics with sagging headliners and this is the first time it has happened to one of my cars and in a
Porsche
no less. It sits in the same place as all the others over the years, so I guess the glue isn’t as heat resistant.
It will be going to get
alcantara
for the headliner and also over the A-pillar plastic trim on Monday. I might get the rear center console covered in leather or vinyl if I have time to get it out of the car.
It can't be more hot or more humid in Miami than here... still it's sad to see this happen to a
Porsche
!
Can this get fixed easily? Where? And for how much?
Sorry my friend...
I fixed the one in my truck easily enough. The hardest part was getting the visors back on but it was a one day thing. I used 3m heavy duty spray adhesive. I'm not sure how easy it would be to get the headliner out, on the truck i wasn't too concerned if I creased the backing a bit, it's a 15 y/o POS. Either way, it can be done at home.
I have an auto upholstery guy that will charge $350 and should get it back the
next
day. All the pieces on the headliner have to come off somehow but he does it all the time. I don’t mind a challenge once in a while but I don’t want to struggle all day on it, especially in a hot driveway.
He said he couldn’t reuse or match the original fabric but it is still not a bad price considering an old post from 2006 that says the
alcantara
factory option is over $1100 and doesn’t include the A-pillar trim.
This is a minor issue. It is only the second piece to break/fail since getting the car. The first being the cord to the gas
cap
.
The headliner from my
2006 Cayman S
has just started to droop too after a couple of scorching hot days in Singapore.
Porsche
want USD2,000 to fix it! I'm going to look for a upholsterer. Incidentally, the cord to my gas
cap
also disintegrated. Sounds like we have the same batch of cars 10,000 miles apart. I've had one other major problem in a water pump failure together with screeching pulleys.
Went down to a local auto upholsterer (Cushion 8) and he has a close replacement for USD220 all in. Since its 10% of
Porsche
's price, I'll try it first
He also has
Alcantara
for about USD400, but I'm not sure if its worth it. I'll have to do it in black anyway because there isn't much of a match with any other color for my terracotta interior
I can almost understand
Porsche
’s higher price, but not that high. Your dealer would replace the headliner and the formed backing panel. Your guy can peel it off and just glue something back on. Black should look good since it is usually an upgrade on the special models from some manufacturers.
My gas
cap
cord broke too, but a while back It was my only visit to the dealer for covered warranty work.
By looking at the car situation and the condition it don't seem that much older, If it is in warranty period go and get replace it. otherwise find the trained person to it for you so that the car show didn't get spoil.
I had my headliner replaced when I had my stereo put in. I used real suede not the synthetic stuff that
Porsche
uses. I love the way it looks and feels.
Next
week I am getting the rear center lid, door pulls/cover connected to the door pulls done and considering visors in the same black suede. Tach Miami definitely get it replaced with the suede you will not regret it.

Got my headliner reglued in
black Alcantara
at the auto upholstery shop. It feels really good, but since it's black, its hard to tell visually that its any different from before. Can't be happier with it....
I find it incredible that you guys just accept the terible quality of these cars and just pull out the old check book My headliner looks like a 1972
chevy
and I need tweezers to pull out my Cds while my fingers are stuck on the radio buttons.
I just can't tell if this is a heat issue or just simply an adhesive issue. The dealer here has seen plenty of them on
Caymans
, but less so on 997's.
A friend of mine had his drop and I helped him get it replaced under goodwill by
Porsche
as he was just out of warranty
The not so good news is that mine has now dropped! No signs of it dropping at all and one day meeting up with 50 other Porsches for a drive. Parked outside of the hotel at 10am and then 1 hour later came back, got in and felt something lightly touching my head.....three quarters of the lining had come away and ten minutes later the rest joined it!
It was not an overly warm morning (32C) for here and my car is pretty much always parked in underground parking at my office and home.
My car is well out of warranty and has no extended warranty due to my small mods
so cannot see
Porsche
helping out although we are checking.
It sucks, but does it make me love the CS any less....no! So
Alcantara
seems like it may be the way forward
I am wondering if it may be more to do with humidity. I love to drive with my windows down even in the extreme heat with the AC blowing. The humidity here gets crazy in the summer, so maybe a combination of heat and damp screw with the glue.
The cars that seem to have had issues are MY06 and I see in the parts system the roof liner part numbers have changed over the years.
Oh well when something breaks it's time to upgrade it...always a silver lining!
thats what happened to my headliner. one day i parked it in the garage (99% of the time i don't have covered parking), then the next day i get in the car and noticed something touching the top of my head
This is a design flaw. Totally unacceptable.
My 13 year old Mercedes SUV has been to heck and back and the headliner is muddy, but not drooping.
Ridiculous and embarrassing.
I would be livid.
I have the same problem with the headliner of my
2007 Cayman S
... Can you post the info on the upholstery guy that did yours for $350? Did it include the pillars? Thanks!
Here you can get Ultrasuede, same exact fabric, from same manufacturer,
Alcantara
is their European moniker, Ultrasuede is the American market moniker.
Gulf Fabrics Home Page
They have all colors. Great price too.
This is the real deal as used by Lamborghini, Porsche and everyone else.
Having to resurrect this thread since my headliner just dropped (overnight) and now I need a solution. I too am in Miami, FL.
Any updates? (I know it really hasn't been that long).
What fabric did you go with? How close to stock did it look?
Also, can you please post pics of how your interior looks now.
Thanks
Mine came out looking better than the original and is still in place. Only the dealer can supply the stock fabric so the samples posted above are only a fraction of the fabrics that Fernando can use. He is near Bird Road and 826.
Mines sagging a touch, I just bought a complete replacement (genuine
Porsche
) headlining from Porscha-Part for £30 delivered to the house.
I'll be changing mine this weekend in preparation for my trip to Le Mans for the 24hr in a couple of weeks.
You sure on your pricing, they a little off to me?
There are plenty of copy Alcantara products, but only one true Alcantara and it is usually in the $100 per metre range if not a bit more, so $300 would only cover material, but if you can get proper Alcantara installed for that price I say hurry and get it done. It's a very nice touch and I'm glad I didn't go with cloth when mine dropped, but instead paid a little more for alcantara.
Pricing on the OEM headliners
in cloth
from a Porsche is very similar globally and are in the $600 range rather than $800, and a bit over $800 will get you an OEM Alcantara headliner.
Where you get $500 worth of labour I have no idea as it takes only a few hours to remove and install the A & Pillar covers, interior light, garage opener if you have it and then the roof lining and so would think just a couple of hundred dollars.
That's great and wish we had good breakers over here! I'm not sure why we don't as there are plenty of wrecked cars
