Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hi, My cayman 987.2 with 40,000km ODO has some clunking noise from front when driving on rough road (with lots of small holes), I made this video https://youtu.be/EVBMpGbb9H0 I have just replaced struts upper mount to solve the steering noise. Do you guys have any idea where the noise come from? Thank you

POST 2Original post

I have a similar noise not as low in pitch. It only happens on road conditions where all 4 tires are bouncing. If I just go over a solid bump there is no noise?

POST 3Original post

A good place to start would be to check for play in the outer tie rod ends. That's usually the first wear point in the steering mechanism I think.

POST 4Original post

assuming absorbers are in good condition, all the front and rear arms should be checked.

POST 5Original post

I brought it to Porsche dealer. Absorbers are good. All rubber seals look good in droplinks, rod ends. A arms are ok (looking from outside). They said if I want to investigate further, they will have to take all the parts in front suspension out to inspect one by one which will be costly because of their hourly rate. Anything else should I check?

POST 6Original post

It turns out that the front I arm on both sides failed. After replacing, the car feels much tighter and no more noise. Thanks guys
