2006 3.4S. On two separate days roughly two months apart engine has suffered intermittent sudden loss of power under throttle. Only happened a handful of times on both days. All or nearly all power suddenly lost while accelerating. Lift off throttle, reapply and all seems normal - power returns. On the most recent day it only happened twice. Stopped car after the second time, turned off and restarted. Didn't happen again.
No CEL. Durametric shows no fault codes. No other symptoms I am aware of, including nothing odd in dash / cabin re the electrical system that I have notice. Any ideas? Thanks.
There are so many possibilities. When trying to help on the internet I like to suggest inexpensive things to try that can't hurt either way. In that spirit you might want to toss a bottle of
Techron
in it to eliminate any moisture in the fuel and clean the injectors. Then work your way toward the more expensive potential causes, it's likely a spark or fuel delivery issue. How many miles on the girl?
Throttle pedal position switch seems like logical place to start. Known issue.
Could this just be PSM engaging, or is it more severe? One of the things the nannies do when the rear wheels start slipping under acceleration is to cut power for a moment.
Yeah, that did cross my mind. Thanks.
Definitely not that, but thanks.
I could be wrong, but it feels more electrical subsystem to me. Though that could of course include spark in some form. Total binary. Complete loss of power, momentarily, then completely normal.
Throttle pedal position sensor at the mo' seems the best candidate. I will research!
I've had this same issue for years... very intermittent and still can't pinpoint the issue. I have a
Sprint Booster
so I might take it out for a couple of weeks and see if that's the culprit, however I love the throttle response from my
SB
that I may just wait till later . Also, since I rarely drive the car the gas sits there for at least 2 weeks before I fill up again, and that's when I really notice the throttle response loss- not sure if that's just a coincidence or not...
If you have a scan tool with PIDs. Watch your engine coolant temp and Ignition timing. When temps hit a certain point the
ECU
seems to retard timing in order to "cool" things down(what i have observed) While testing I have turned the heater on to dissipate the heat for a bit and things seem to calm down a bit for me. I would also check your cooling fan for proper operation. Relay, fuses and the fan motor would be a start. Totally an opinion of mine since I have been observing this, but I am leaning this way since all other system are functional
