Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So since April 2022 I've had an order with my local OPC for a spyder 718. I specced it and paid the deposit of £5000. Duly received my paperwork and was told that the order would be fulfilled late 2023. I was quite happy with that, as I have a 997.1 cabriolet that I purchased new in 2006. So open air driving in the summer was catered for. Also my 2018 991.2 GT3RS also bought new would suffice for some fun too. I buy my cars to enjoy long term and my RS must surely be one of the very few one owner cars in the UK judging by the fact that less than a 100 were delivered. So onto my gripe. I received an email and phone call from my sales guy , who has been brilliant and always straightforward with all our dealings. He informed me that my order has been cancelled by Porsche due to the fact the model is now discontinued. I had been reassured earlier in the year when news had broken that the Spyder was to be discontinued but orders would be honoured. So from my perspective I feel very disappointed as I placed that order in good faith only to be let down at the eleventh hour. Also to rub salt into the wound I noticed over the weekend that 2 spyders delivered in June 2023 are advertised for sale by private individuals with hardly any mileage on them. It just begs another question as to the allocation process of these cars. Mine was to be a long term keeper as my other cars are. Any one else had their order cancelled so unceremoniously? Rant over, but I do feel that Porsche need to take a long hard look at how they sell their cars.

POST 4Original post

Sorry to hear about your order being cancelled. I think that Porsche are going to have a big wake up call and will have to change their entire approach and attitude.

POST 8Original post

OPCs are full of sh!t. I've sat and watched my local OPC resell numerous GT products over the past 24 months, all with 20 miles on them.

POST 10Original post

If you placed an order recently I could understand, but given you have had an order for some time and a good relationship with your OPC I can understand your frustration, add to that that some cars are already up for sale it grates me also. Porsche ultimately can cancel orders, reduce allocation to OPC's etc and there's little the OPC or you can do unfortunately,

Anyone can place an order (with a deposit), but you are not guaranteed to get a car until an allocation is given. I'm assuming that since placing your order the OPC has never mentioned when you may get an allocation? TBF, the OPC would/should have known about allocations for the rest of the MY23 builds (until July) earlier this year, so it's pretty poor communication from them IMO.

Didnt some guy sue an OPC fairly recently after his GT allocation was given to someone else ? Sorry for paywall content .... https://www.telegraph.co.uk/cars/news/pensioner-ge...

POST 13Original post

That sucks given you ordered more than a year ago. Feel for you - can they switch it into one of those Spyder RS cars? Those will presumably still be built …

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I did ask that question, unfortunately the reply was that only one car per centre was the allocation across the country. Of course that one car already allocated to some deserving soul....

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes I asked that as I was given the bad news. The Spyder RS, incidentally, wasn't even out when I ordered my Spyder.

POST 17Original post

Fireblade007 said: The Spyder RS, incidentally, wasn't even out when I ordered my Spyder. As I said in my earlier post, an 'order' and an 'allocation' are two different things. Your order is your intent to buy, not a confirmation of a car, your order only turns to a confirmation of car once you have your allocation. This means your 'order' can be moved to any car and spec if your dealer will do it. So, if the dealer wants to transfer your order to a Spyder RS allocation (when once becomes available to them), they can do with a push of a button. I very much doubt they will though as the RS waiting list will be a mile long and full of customers who have bought lots of other car from them.

POST 18Original post

They can’t meet the demand so they just play as they want. You are at complete mercy of the dealers and if you don’t know the secret handshake you will never get in the best cars. It’s a weird and sinister way of doing business that I really dislike and puts me off ordering anything from them. It’s too murky for my liking. Unless you want a car they have in stock a new order with Porsche, at least in the U.K., is a complete joke.

POST 19Original post

Assuming that you don’t need the £5K then ask for it to be moved to a Spyder RS. A nice letter outlining how disappointed you are and how you appreciate that it’s a long shot for an allocation. Plus a trip to see the DP in person for a heart strings type chat, very nicely done obviously. Then wait. You have nothing to loose except the investment potential of the money. I would drop in every 3 months or so just to remind them you exist. You absolutely never know with the Porsche merry go round of allocations. I am sure if you hinted that you might PX the GT3 then you would shoot up the list a bit. Good luck.

POST 20Original post

Probably moved your order to one of their mates lol! Been a lot of game playing in last few years but things are changing! A number of people have been played regarding orders! If an OPC has 30 people deposited for a specific model they get a larger allocation than if they only had 10 but out of say 30 orders only 10 cars will be allocated to the dealership and fewer of those allocations will be non flippers/ mates of DP! I think it has been location specific as some OPC have been a little fairer than others! But to be fair to the dealership April 22 order would have been too late for a Spyder order and really they should have been more honest with the chances of actually getting a car. I ordered a a BGTS June 21 after I was told I was unlikely to get a spyder but after an 18 month wait I was told I was next on list but decided to cancel and order a 992T instead. POST 21Original post

Had this happen to me on my Macan Turbo (first gen) with no explanation apart form Germany pulled the order - cars we still being delivered and my option was to join the back of the queue again (it was one of the early ones) - ever since had a feeling that a flushed regular pinched my car...

POST 22Original post

Unsurprisingly that Telegraph article concerning the 4.0 GT3RS 'Boltongate' case fails to mention that what sealed the OPCs/Pendragons fate was an e mail sent to the customer from their sales guy (who has since moved on) which clearly confirmed he was to receive a car. I suspect after the huge costs awarded against Pendragon following the Courts verdict they were one of the first OPCs to amend procedure and unless you actually have a similar confirmation you would be clutching at straws to prove you were offered a physical allocation despite some verbal assurance which would obviously be difficult to prove. Frustrating for you OP you have sympathy especially as others appear to have received cars before yourself although you don't specify whether the flipped Spyders actually came from Bolton. You say you keep your cars for a considerable number of years which is admirable in an increasing world of the irritating flippers receiving prime and early allocations for Porsche GTs then cashing in but unfortunately this very reason is probably one of the main ones why you failed to receive a car. Increasingly the OPC way unfortunately and despite what many are claiming it will no doubt get worse certainly before it gets better.

POST 23Original post

I had my order cancelled too. Was informed by the dealer that I was the oldest deposit on their books (Aug 21) unfulfilled. Didn’t fill me with delight. In fairness, 1) they did offer me an allocation in May but missing the bits I really wanted on a new spec car (Buckets, PCCB etc) and 2) when I deferred, the salesperson did what they could but just ran out of time. I asked for the deposit to be transferred onto a 992.2 GT3 with a px of my 1.2 GT3 but not interested. Got my £5k back. Shame, I’d have loved a Spyder to my own spec or thought a new gen GT3 would be good. On reflection, I think they did me a favour. I love my 1.2 Touring and don’t think a 992 will do it for me. I’ll see what the new Spyder replacement has to offer and pick up again (from the back of the queue!).

I was told that Porsche were persuaded to build one extra car in order to solve this mistake ... clearly the one of being caught?
