I’ve tried using WD-40 with no luck, and I plan to test with some penetrating oil—but I’m honestly not sure what part I’m supposed to be oiling or adjusting.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey all, I’m stuck trying to fix the telescopic function on my steering wheel and could use some guidance. The issue: I’m not entirely sure how the adjustment handle is supposed to engage or release the lock that controls the telescopic movement. I’ve attached some photos for reference. From what I can see: The black rod with holes moves when I turn the handle under the steering wheel, but it doesn’t seem to engage or affect anything—it just rotates. I can push the handle in and out while holding it, but again, nothing happens beyond that motion. I’ve tried using WD-40 with no luck, and I plan to test with some penetrating oil—but I’m honestly not sure what part I’m supposed to be oiling or adjusting. Am I missing something obvious? Would really appreciate any tips from someone who’s tackled this before. Thanks in advance!

POST 2Original post

That sounds complicated. Are you missing the little lever under the steering wheel that you "push down to unlock, pull out steering wheel, push lever back up to lock"? Like, literally, a two second process. Me thinks you're complicating it... unless you are trying that way and something IS wrong. The only way I easier could describe the pedestrian process is to tell you to Google it. Seriously. You'll wonder what you were missing. Good luck.

POST 3Original post

Is the steering wheel locked or does it move freely?

yeah i understand how the lever operates, it just doesn't engage or dis-engage anything
