Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, I am finally in the market for my first 911. About 20 years ago, my boss used to have a 928 which he used to let me drive (trusting soul as I was 19 at the time !). It was nice to drive but didn't really light my fire. Then, one day he had to go out somewhere and told me that Charles Ivey (yes, they ised to be a main dealer in those days) were picking the 928 up for a service and they would be dropping off a courtesy car. Could I take the courtesy car home and then bring it in the next day. Uuh, OK !. Anyway Charles Ivey arrived, took away the 928 and left a 6 month old 964 cabriolet. I took it home that night, via a long detour and brought it back the next day - in one piece ! It was the most amazing experience of my young life. For the next 3 months, I was racking my brains how I could make enough money to buy one, needless to say it never happened and I swore to myself that I had to own one before I died. I am not on my death bed but I am now in a poistion to fulfill that dream. I have onwed other nice cars in the past (924, Focus RS, M3 etc) but never a 911. So to the point, I would like to spend in the region of £24k to £26k for a C4S. It appears that in that price range, I am looking at 2002-03 models with 45k to 70k miles. Apart from the usual RMS issues, getting a Pre-Purchase Inspection and ensuring it has a fully documented history, what else should I be looking out for when viewing these cars. Also with a 996 of this age and mileage, is there any work I should ensure the car has already had done (aprt from brakes, discs and tyres) ege should it have a new clutch if a manual ? Thanks for your help. PS. If you happen to have a well looked after, cherished example, then please drop me a PM

POST 2Original post

Hi, welcome and good choice In terms of spec i would look for (in order of my preference): Porsche Sports Exhaust (PSE) Bose Bi-xenon lights PCM2 Interior Aluminum pack I have my car for the last 4.5 years. In that time i have had pretty much all the common issues with this car: new radiators new coil pack new oil pressure sender switch new AC condensors I also replaced my clutch about 18mths ago after ~45k mls.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the suggested spec Haran. The PCM2 is quite interesting as I have heard a mix of views on this. When taking into account that some have suffered from issues and the fact that it is approx. 7-8 years old, a modern Tom Tom would be a better option. What are your thoughts on this.

POST 4Original post

Yeh i know what you mean. I have PCM1 and whilst being useful(in Europe as well as UK) it is very outdated and no match for tom tom or the like. So I guess I meant PCM2 vs PCM1 as I think for the dreaded re-sale considerations some might say the integrated OEM Sat Nav regardless of actual use is a positive.
