But I wasn't getting anything above 0.5 before I started only using the high octane jungle juice (102 RON).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi fella's, I was wondering whether atmospheric conditions can lead to the boost on the 996 turbo altering slightly? I've noticed that since it's been very cold mine seems to hold a steady 0.6 bar instead of 0.7. I've seen the odd spike if coming of the accelerator quickly but otherwise it's 0.6. I know cold air is denser, so wondered if the computer compensates by reducing the boost slightly?? Cheers Jim

POST 2Original post

It's not the computer, but denser air cannot be compressed as much as thin air, so the wastegate will open at a lower boost factor: The wastegate opening is a function of absolute pressure - not compression ratio. HTH

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Cheers Wattie, that makes sense. Jim

POST 4Original post

You get more boost at sea level and with colder air. The warmer it is and the higher you go the less boost you get. Although even a cold place at high altitude can /will reduce boost. Make sure you are running 98/99 Octane at all times in a Turbo/GT2 :thumb:

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The min I use is Shell V, as I have a tesco near by that sells the good stuff

POST 6Original post

:agree: wizard's spot on, I used to get 0.9 bar when I lived in the UK, now I've moved up into the Alps and I can't get above 0.7 (hot or cold). But I wasn't getting anything above 0.5 before I started only using the high octane jungle juice (102 RON). Griffo.
