I used to ride motorcycles (which are really high-revving engines) and even in that situation, there was a strong argument that non-synthetics were fine in so long as you changed the oil regularly.

I searched the forum and it appears that most are running synthetic but was wondering whether any of you were running non-synthetic oil in your engine and whether this is a problem?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi All, I have the opportunity to buy a few cases of oil at a pretty good price and was debating between buying Synthetic vs. Non-Synthetic Oil. I searched the forum and it appears that most are running synthetic but was wondering whether any of you were running non-synthetic oil in your engine and whether this is a problem? I used to ride motorcycles (which are really high-revving engines) and even in that situation, there was a strong argument that non-synthetics were fine in so long as you changed the oil regularly. Thoughts? Comments? Thanks, MT

POST 2Original post

I thought that if you use one type, you should stick to that type. Since the engine was factory filled with synthetic you should prob stick with it. Why else would they require synthetic from the factory? Bobby

POST 3Original post

Also, point to note is that you stated that you might do regular oil since you are getting a deal on it. But.......if you have to change it more frequently, where is the cost savings? I wouldn't risk my engine to save a few dollars (and we are only talking about a few anyway--maybe 20-30 dollars). Just my $.02 Cheers, Dell

POST 4Original post

It might void you warranty as well. I know that with the M3, you need to use a special weight Castrol oil or else you warranty will become void. Bobby

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks all for the replies--Synthetic it is!
