Hi all,
I am currently trying to install a
PSE
on my
987.1
2006
Boxster Base
. I see a few threads where people have done it successfully on 987.1s. I however am struggling with fitting the exhaust in. The valves seem to extend slightly more than the original exhaust and hit the bumper. Has anyone encountered this before? Pictures for reference. Thanks in advance!
Manual Overide of Factory PSE
I've recently finished installing a full factory PSE (Porsche Sports Exhaust) on my MY 2005 boxster 987 S. Along with the install i've also added an additional switch to allow manual control of the PSE to prevent the ECU control reverting the system to quiet mode between 20 and 40 mph. The...

Outstanding Tech Contribution! - PSE retrofit success...
I just completed a full Porsche Sport Exhaust (PSE) retrofit for my '06 Cayman S. This was an option I always wanted, and I stumbled on a great deal on Ebay for a set of lightly used PSE mufflers. I also wanted to have the on/off functionality, so I found a way to make the electronics work...

I remember it being a very tight fit to get the valves inside the bumper. I think I installed it all assembled like you are trying to do, but I can’t say for certain.
It looks like your
Boxster
bumper is fuller in that area, whereas the
Cayman
bumper has a bit of a cutout which probably makes it easier on the
Cayman
.
You can try installing each muffler side separately, but keep the exhaust tip and crossover pipe sleeve on one side before installing the other side. If that also doesn’t work, or if you don’t want to mess with the exhaust clamp bolts, then removing the rear bumper would be your best bet.
Splitting the exhaust and fitting each muffler separately worked! A bit of a haste with joining them under the car but its all good now. Thanks!
Nice! Any plans to hook up the vacuum lines and electronics, or you just going to run it with the valves open?
Definitely want to hook the vacuum lines and OEM exhaust switch! Will be doing that in the coming months. Do you have any advice?
Does you car have
Sport Chrono
? If not, then I recommend following my writeup in the third link in your original post. It is all still working great in my car.
I dont have
sport Chrono
. Is this the change-over valve you used?

Here is the one I bought. You need the built on clip to mount it in the OEM location on the engine.

Do you have Porsche’s PSE retrofit instructions? It was super helpful and has all the required part numbers. I bought everything from ECS Tuning. I still have the order confirmation email, so I can post links to all the parts if you need.
Links will be super helpful as I was looking at all the parts you listed on a million different websites. If I know the parts I get are the ones you got that will make it even easier. You can even update your original post if you like. Thanks!
I added part numbers and links to the
original thread.
That is awesome, I appreciate all the help. I was also wondering where did you find
Porsche
's official
PSE
retrofit instructions? I think I will need that as a manual to help me through hooking everything up.
I sent you a PM with the instructions.
