Much discussed previously across forums it really is a classic 'no brainer option' for many new Porsches not only adding value to the car above the option cost but making it a far nicer place to sit and makes the car much easier sell too as most used buyers demand it.

I think we'll continue to see what we see now longer term - 981s holding good used values with an equivalent 718 being worth just that litle bit more.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Looking at the official Porsche website I note there are currently 62 718 GT4 for sale at present, both manual and PDK. I know a lot of cars get traded at this time of year, but I think the market is a lot tougher now especially with the cost of finance at 10%+, up from around 4% when I did my 981 GT4 in May! I suspect it has a lot to do with mortgage hikes and availability, and the recession. Feels a lot like the early 90s at the moment.

POST 3Original post

That’s a lot Yes, interest rates, tax rises, political uncertainty, social issues, oversupply, future environmental restrictions ….. Things will no doubt find a new level and hopefully settle, but surely the days of demand outstripping supply, price premiums and ‘flipping’, are over - across the board?

POST 4Original post

I doubt it. New supply is still restricted, and speccing a car for yourself will always appeal.

POST 5Original post

You cannot have 64 cars in the main dealer network alone and still claim they are rare, clearly few people are buying them at premium prices. Presumably these cars are being sold back by private buyers and they must now be taking a chunky loss as it seems unlikely any OPC will be rushing to get more stock. Hence I think we can assume that the glory days of flipping are drawing to a rapid close....

POST 6Original post

Some people still have their heads in the sand and tell you only 3 cars are the right spec and it’s still an overs car! A few people on here have bought late low miles cars Pdk buckets under list! Some OPC are still trying it on with cars over £100k but I expect they will fall to low 90s or even high 80s before the years out! Oh it’s nothing to do with season either as good high demand cars sell anytime of year! As long as you have bought to keep and enjoy then all the above is irrelevant just not good for flippers and the not so straight acting OPCs

POST 7Original post

Yeah people go on about spec, and it obviously is important, but regardless of spec, the OPC’s still want their 10k margin. So if you sell back to them, depreciation is certainly a real thing, and here to stay I’d imagine. Just normality returning really, coupled with more normal interest rates.

POST 8Original post

OPCs have paid too much for their current stock, so are looking to offload. Expect their future offers on used cars to be quite a chunk lower than the past year.

Early run car approaching 3 years old with comfort seats and not even got extended leather. Very difficult sell. But still around £5k premium over the £75k basic list price new.

Really don't think that leather is a necessity on a GT car. Red a lovely colour (I'll skip the Aurum wheels tho).

POST 22Original post

Love Guards which was the colour I chose for my old 981GT4 just not with Aurum wheels. I'd much rather pay £10-15k more for a newer GT4 with all the options.

Taffy66 said: Love Guards which was the colour I chose for my old 981GT4 just not with Aurum wheels. I'd much rather pay £10-15k more for a newer GT4 with all the options. Wheels professionally refinished for £250. Im not sure id get £15k of value out of a leather dashboard, nor i'd expect would the 15k be factored in upon any subsequent resale, however if its a keeper for life then I understand buying exactly what you want. For the record also had guards red 996 and 997's and its a decent colour for the car, better than Gentian etc.

POST 27Original post

scogins said: I think the red car looks awesome - Guards Red is an iconic Porsche colour. The spec is the issue though. It's odd that when Porsche strip 5kg out with a carbon roof or remove 2kg of sound deadening it makes a car more desirable. When a manufacturer sticks on fake carbon fibre or wood, for many it doesnt enhance a car. When somebody buys a GT4 why do you want leather glued all over the dash etc

POST 28Original post

The extended leather option in addition to leather dash top also adds leather door tops and quite simply makes the cabin a much nicer place to be. Much discussed previously across forums it really is a classic 'no brainer option' for many new Porsches not only adding value to the car above the option cost but making it a far nicer place to sit and makes the car much easier sell too as most used buyers demand it. I don't personally disagree, however i can also see a logic for asking for them not to glue extra leather to the dash in a GT4, bet its exclusion saves 5kg, surprised its not a chargeable option by Porsche

Personally I like Guards Red but needs silver wheels/satin platinum. It might be poverty spec. but it is still a low miles 718gt4 in an OPC for under £80k! I've no doubt that the red car is an ideal spec for someone , but the advertised price clearly suggests that its not a spec that would appeal to the majority of prospective GT4 buyers.

POST 34Original post

Focusing on it being less than £80k is ignoring the fact that it's still over list price when new given the options were under a grand (chrono and wheel colour). It's a lousy spec with minimal appeal. I could possibly see the attraction as a track hack if it had buckets, but it doesn't!

The buckets are perfectly suited to long distances if you find them super comfy, as I do. No-one says the CS pack rattles, because it doesn't. The cage may "ping" occasionally though

The opc which supplied me my gt4 wanted 10k SOR fees, I asked why so expensive and they said it’s due to be being a gt car. I was recommended another opc by a friend that I had never had any dealings with, they wanted 6k fees plus £750 prep, plus they wanted me to sign a contract saying anyone could drive the car when in there possession, it also had to be covered on my insurance. In the end I traded it to another OPC who I had sold a few cars to. I even tried jzm out of interest and they wanted minimum 5k and wanted to price it for sale far lower than the opc pricing. It wasn’t a easy sell and that was the tail end of last summer.

Some £500 some £750, if it has any stone chips you will be covering the cost for that to and to paint it correctly won’t be cheap with porsche pricing.

It's no secret that OPC's seek to make in the region of 10% profit on their used cars. Ask one of the Sales team... they'll likely tell you! £80k sticker price... they'll want £8k profit (after their costs for prep / warranty... which can easily be £2k). That fancy facility and all those members of staff aren't going to pay for themselves!

POST 49Original post

AV185 you posted in another reply to a post that OPC like to see £10-15k return in a car make up your mind! The figures can be played around with, is it or isn’t over list but the fact remains punters are buying fairly new cars under list, prices are falling and we now have a car under £80k in an OPC and some better specd cars only a few grand more! Yes there are cars in some OPC over £100k but these are overpriced with dealers trying their luck but that luck is running out!

POST 50Original post

AV185 “Also largely depends on your relationship with your OPC.” ????????? I wondered how you get all the new GT/Specials- which you then only do a few k miles? So is this why you are so defensive over values?

POST 51Original post

Bear in mind they need to pay 20% VAT on the margin. When it sold my 718S to an OPC buyer via Motorway, he told me they would put £8k on it's as had to put it through the workshop for a fixed £1500 prep irrespective of what had to be done, £1600 for warranty, so that is £4900 profit that then incurs £820 VAT, and leaves £4080 profit (which was pretty much 10% profit on what they paid me for it) Edited by elan362 on Wednesday 16th November 21:27

Second line? Could happen. If the original has something that the followers didn't, it can sometimes go that way. Jaguar XK140 and XK150 were massive developments over the XK120. I know which one I'd rather own, and I always have done. And somehow, they are worth quite a bit more. Gut feel is that I love my old 981 GT4, and if I had garage space for a Cayman R too, I'd probably own one. Not that often we agree @julian987R, but I think you may well have a point. Liam

Your logic is that the .2 is not going to be worth more than a .1 as it is just a facelift. For the 991 GT3s, the .2 had a much improved engine along with the facelift so it's not just a skin change. It's the same for the GT4s, so the comparison is valid. I think we'll continue to see what we see now longer term - 981s holding good used values with an equivalent 718 being worth just that litle bit more.

Thanks again for all your advice and help so far. I'm still debating between a top spec 981 and an early 718. Does anyone know anything about this car? I know it won't be to everyone's taste but I quite like the traditional GT spec of red and red stitch. Seems to have all the good options too. The risky bit is that it sits in some sort of car supermarket and they won't allow anyone to plug in to do a rev range check. 'List' today is very different to 'list' when that car was new in Nov 21. Since that car was originally ordered there have been nearly £6k of price rises, so even though it's around current 'list', the actual reality is it's way above its original list. That's one of the reasons why the current market is so nuanced with prices

Looked at a 4x4 from them some time ago, after reading around decided against it. It could be a good car but you need a rev check, it is not worth risking it imo. Does make you wonder if they know something or if they just don't do it themselves.

Thanks for the feedback. Enough to make me walk having read a bit more about them. Anybody spotted anything similar about? Can stretch to about 82k. Saw the GT Silver car at Leicester mentioned earlier but it wasn’t for me.

POST 72Original post

Interesting how several are being sold out of the OPC network. Cars traded in elsewhere/sold privately or ineligible for OPC sales due to issues/modifications etc?

POST 73Original post

OPC aren’t really taking GT cars at the moment… especially GT4 with the glut of them available. Any trade offers from OPC will be in the gutter… so sale to an Indy that will make a better offer than OPC, and will just take the car and put the cash in your account is an easy choice…. Especially if you’re not buying something from an OPC and the GT car is going back in exchange.

POST 74Original post

Very good point, but there are only 31 cars in the network as of now? That's less than one per centre. 17 with LWBS and 14 comforts. Doesn't seem overly excessive, but I get the point about taking on risk at this point in time.

POST 75Original post

Yeah OPC are getting a bit tired of sitting on SOR GTs as owners aren't reducing them and interest has dropped dramatically, yet the regular cars are selling well.

Doesn’t shock me, they had to reduce their last 718 gt4 by close to 10k to shift it. If you regularly follow the market it’s the same cars being advertised, they don’t seem to be moving that well. Yet I hear new Porsches are still being delivered, regularly, I assume that’s the back log churn of old orders due to very poor delivery times by the porsche factory.

I have been offered two nearly new gt3 this week, sadly pdk and brave colours with overs that are truly laughable. Looking at the amount of 992 gt3 cars for sale and new one regularly coming to the market deals must be out there as sellers who are in it for the money are already panicking. Have you made any offers? Absolutely bonkers overs being asked. The cars sit there for months. Tourings for £250 ++...mental. SOR owners in denial. The market sets the price, not some deluded flipper trying to max profit, or second owner desperate not to realize the cost of their impetuosity.

Although there are 78 on Autotrader. Summer and sport car season is coming and cars are selling. The talk of a down turn in the market seems not to be happening. And if this is the last year of production for the GT4 there could be more demand?

Maybe they're playing a game of brinkmanship which neither of you are aware of. The secret to getting allocations of the 'specials' is to outplay them in mind games by utilising reverse psychology. Think of it as a game of mind Chess by pre-empting your opponent's next move. Another trick is to disguise your intelligence by being outwardly silly giving them the false sense they're smarter As Napolean Bonaparte once said and I quote "The best way to defeat your enemy is to first make him your friend''

Would anybody order new when you cannot order with bucket seats and ?PDLS. So I would not be surprised if the used 718 GT4 with those options are selling well. Edited by LamedonM on Sunday 26th February 22:25

Edited by LamedonM on Sunday 26th February 22:25 They only things limited order on the configurator now are buckets and bose. Not many nearly new cars on the used market are at a good price all the cars selling seem to be 1 year old or older.

I would be inclined to take the build slot irrespective of spec but try and get a guarantee it will be at the existing pre June price increase due to the spec compromises. Obviously it depends how flexible you are on this. One of the very last pure ICE GT4s will always sell and in future years possibly at a premium price simply because of this fact alone. Bear in mind along with many other manufacturers Lotus have just hiked post June 1st delivered 2023 Emira prices by a colossal 8% even on the I4 dct FE UK deliveries of which haven't even commenced and aren't due until 2024 by which time another price rise is likely.
