After replacing front struts, I hear a metalic "clack", just once, when backing out of a parking space, even with little or no turning of the wheel.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

After replacing front struts, I hear a metalic "clack", just once, when backing out of a parking space, even with little or no turning of the wheel. I'm thinking the sound may be caused by a replacement part I added that wasn't there before: "Porsche Support Ring for Shock Absorber Bearing Plate Genuine Porsche" This part showed up in the recommended associated parts when I order strut mounts. I wasn't sure what it was and thought I would figure it out when I dissasembled and reassembled the struts, but my old assembly did not have this part. I couldn't find any clear images of strut assembly using it. It seemed to fit well between the bearing plate and the spring so that's where I put it. Does anyone have experience with this part? Is it optional? I'm thinking of taking them back off to make the noise go away.
